(Hartford, Ohio - April 21, 2007) Temps in the 70's made for an excellent opening night festivies at Sharon Speedway's 3/8th mile speed plant.
Front row starters, Keith Taylor and Shawn Minor led the Warren Harley Davidson
sprints to the green. Minor charged out front for the first four laps, then 7th
place starter Kevin Schaeffer took control on laps 5 & 6 as a fast approaching
Bob Felmlee raced out front by lap 7. With the help of lapped traffic, Ed Lynch Jr.
pulled to Felmlee's tail with 6 laps to go. >From there Felmlee held off Lynch by
.005 sec. to win the season opener. Lynch was second, Jody Keegan third,
Kevin Schaeffer fourth and Mike Kekich fifth. Kekich and Felmlee wond heat races.
The Tom's Sewer & Drain Service stocks appeared trackside for their 15 lap A Main.
Sonny Wisler (2006 track champ) and Tom Fox brought the field to green. Wisler
lead the first four circuits before Bruce Redman placed his machine out front on
lap six, From lap seven Wisler muscled his machine back out front, posting a victory
in defense of his track title. Redman, placed second, followed by Dan Lewis, Mike
Aley, and Jarod Larson, who started 26th, Mike Aley, Steve D'Apolito and Dave
McLaughlin won heats.
Bob Dorman and Del Rougeux paced the Gibson Governor Big Block Modifieds for
25 laps of feature racing. Dorman lead lap 1, Rob Curtis powered into the top spot
laps 3 throught 8. Rougeux and Curtis swapped the 9 and 10th lap lead. Curtis lead
until hard charging Ron Smoker found the front by lap 19 and 20 only to lose the lead
to Rougeux for the final 5 laps. Rougeux was followed by Brian Swartzlander, Rob
Smoker, Rob Curtis and Dave Murdick. Curtis and Swartzlander won heats.
2006 Track Champ Guy Griffin quickly lead all fifteen laps of the Limited Sprint
feature. Newcomer Eric Williams finished second in his first outing in a sprint car.
Nick Miller was third, Jack Whitmore fourth, and Brandon Spithaler fifth.
The Coy Brothers E-Mods were the final feature of the evening. Bill Thomas, hoping,
for his first victory since 2005, lead the 1st lap of 15.Tenth place starter Al Dellinger
lead laps 2 through 4 before a broken left front spindle sidelined the veteran and
handed the lead and eventual win to 2006 track champ Russ. Dunn. Larry Kugel
came from 14th to second, Thomas was third, Joe Gabrielson fourth. Bob McCann,
Dellinger and Dunn won heats.
