With Mother Nature failing to cooperate with the Speedway, Promoter Gary Palmer is once again forced to cancel the opening night festivities at the Accord Speedway. With the torrential storm that hit the area hard on Thursday night and with more rain scheduled for the Hudson Valley region today, Palmer felt the best case scenario was to wait another week with the hope the expected warm weather next week will allow for more favorable conditions for the track to open it's gates for the seson opener.
In making the decision to cancel, Palmer sadly stated, "We haven't been able to catch a break this year. The weather has certainly put all of us back on our heels, as many of the tracks in the Northeast are suffering the same fate."
Palmer further added, "As a Promoter, we have to insure the drivers, fans, and everyone associated with the speedway, they will see a safe, entertaining show, and a show they will want to continue to see throughout the year. The weather has been plaguing our efforts to date, but we will prepare for next week and hope for fairer skies."
Accord Speedway will present their season opener next week, May 4th, in conjunction with Apple Greens Golf Course and "Cinco De Mayo" Night. A great night of racing and entertainment is anticipated for all divisions and highlighted by a 50-lap Modified feature that will pay $2,000.00 to the winner. The CNYMS have been removed from the schedule for May 4th, and an alternative date will be added later.
Gary Palmer and his family have made continuous improvements to Accord since they purchased the facility in 2000.
From 1962 and heading into 2007, Accord has opened their gates for 45 years. The new season will punctuate the hard work and effort the Palmers have put into the facility, offering the best in dirt short track racing.
