St. Catharines , ONT…The 2007 edition of the BRP CanAm Late Model Series will open on Friday May 4 at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee , NY . The opener originally scheduled for April was postponed due to weather.
“The delayed start for the Series is welcomed by several of our race teams. We had commitment from 32 teams for the April date, but about 10 teams that hope to run the entire Series were not ready. The May 4 date will work out better for everyone,” reports Series Director Bruce Thompson.
“The 2007 Series marks our fifth year. The outlook is that this year we will beat all prior benchmarks. We have more events scheduled [19 Vs 12] than ever before. Included are our first trip to Eriez Speedway and return engagements at all of the tracks we raced at last year. We have 18 new drivers registered which will make for our largest rookie class ever. 19 of the top 20 drivers from 2006 are returning. We are sorry to lose TJ Shaw, but family commitments have priority. In addition to event purse money the race teams will be competing for a record $50,000 in point and bonus programs. We are very anxious to go racing,” reports Thompson.
The month of May will be busy for the BRP CanAm race teams. After May 4th at Black Rock two Monday night programs will complete the May schedule. Monday May 21st is Queen Victoria holiday in Canada and the Series will again help celebrate the Queen’s day with a trip to Merrittville Speedway in Thorold , Ontario . The following weekend is the Memorial Day holiday in the United States and to celebrate the Series will be racing at Woodhull Raceway in Woodhull , NY on Monday May 28.
