BECHTELSVILLE, PA APRIL 28, 2007 . . . Showers in the late afternoon and then a persistent mist forced promoter Bruce Rogers to postpone the two 20-lap Late Model features and the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Series Modified feature that had been planned for tonight at Grandview Speedway.
“We kept holding off hoping the mist would stop but that did not happen,” said Rogers. “We had to take into consideration the safety of the racers and the comfort of the fans and with that in mind we decided to move all the events planned for tonight to next Saturday.”
The Saturday, May 5th show, sponsored by Whelen, will include a full slate of qualifying events along with the two 20-lap features for the Late Models and a 30-lap event for the Modifieds. A new 7:30 p.m. starting time will be place for the balance of the season with spectator gates opening at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $12.00 for adults, $5 for youngsters 6 through 11 and under 6 are admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
The drivers will also go through the grandstands in an effort to raise much needed funds for veteran Modified racer Smokey Warren who is suffering from brain cancer and has no health insurance.
All rain checks for the Saturday night rainout will be honored for one of the next two Saturday events.
Saturday, May 12th will see State Representative Doug Reichley, representing the 134th Legislative District of Pennsylvania which includes Bechtelsville, on hand to present a proclamation from the State of Pennsylvania honoring the Rogers Family on their 45th consecutive season of business operation at Grandview Speedway.
Reichley will wave the green flag for the first event of the night.
The Checkered Flag Fan Club will be there on May 12th to honor the feature winners and sign up new and renewal members for this the largest and oldest auto racing fan club organization in the nation.
Fans are reminded that they are free to visit with the racers in the pits after the racing action has been completed to collect autographs, take pictures and see the race cars up close. Many of the race teams do have FREE photo cards for fans and also offer t-shirts and other souvenir items for sale.
Grandview Speedway is located on Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For race information telephone 610.754.7688 or visit their website at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
