Newberrytown, PA (April 28, 2007) Saturday night of racing on a lightning fast and smooth track at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Steve Wilbur picking up his first feature of the season in the Trail Motors Super Sportsman. Carl Billet won his second in a row in the Late Model division and Gary Johnston won the Street Stock main event.
In the 20-lap Street Stock feature event, Gary Johnston started on the outside of the front row and jumped out to the early lead. Todd Bowersox quickly moved into the second position to pursue Johnston . Three caution flags bunched up the field but Bowersox was unable to make the pass for the win. Johnston took the win for his first of the season followed by Bowersox, Wes Alleman, Eric Walker and Craig Morgan. Very close behind in positions six through ten were Sam Leonard, Jr., Jason Failor, Joe Whiteley, George Eash and Scott Thunberg.
Gary Johnston, Todd Bowersox and Craig Morgan picked up the heat wins. Dave Thomspon, Jr. was declared the winner of the Street Stock consolation race.
The Trail Motors Super Sportsman 20-lap feature Steve Wilbur jumped out to the lead from the start to set the pace for the 20-lap Trail Motors Super Sportsman feature event. Youngster Rich Janney and veteran Smokey Snelbaker battled side-by-side for the second position until a caution flag flew on lap five. On the restart, Janney battled Wilbur for the lead. On the seventh circuit Smokey Snelbaker made it a three car battle for the lead.
At the midway point, Snelbaker moved into second and set his sights on Wilbur. Entering lapped traffic, Snelbaker closed the gap to less than two car lengths. At the finish, Wilbur won by less than a car length over Snelbaker. Russ Mitten, Craig Morrow and Scott Grace rounded out the top five. The next five finishers were Scott Saylor, Rich Janney, Dan Biggs, Dave Finch and Jamie Rupp. Mitten and Janney won their respective heat races.
In the 20-lap Late Model feature event, Carl Billet moved into the lead on the start from the second starting spot. Pole sitter Gary Potts pursued the leader in and out of lapped traffic until a caution on lap 15 found Justin Erhart and John Moser getting together on the frontstretch. On the restart, Billet continued to lead, but Richwine moved into second all the way from a 12th staring spot and set his sights on the leader. At the end, Billet won his second in a row with Richwine closing fast, finishing behind by a car length.
Carl Billet, Charles Potts and Jake Jones won the qualifying heat races for the Late Model division.
Tomorrow night, April 29, the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) returns to the 4/10-mile Newberry Township oval. The 20-lap ASCS feature event will pay $1,200 to the winner. Also on the card will be the Legends Cars, Xtreme Stock Cars and Mini Vans.
A former Central PA Super Sprint Car, Kenny Adams returns from Malabar , Florida to take on the new Stars of the ASCS. A Two-time series United Sprint Car Sereis (USCS) Champion, Adams won the season opener on dirt at North Florida Speedway on February 1st. Adams then won the O'Reilly USCS Asphalt Thunder Tour opener on March 17th at Peach State Speedway and won again on pavement at Mobile International Speedway on March 31st. The Malabar Missile, Adams captured his 100th O'Reilly Auto Parts United Sprint Car Series career feature win at Mobile International Speedway. Adams reached this personal milestone, when he was named the by National Sprint Car Hall of Fame pollsters as the North American 360 sprint car "Driver of the Year".
Fans and friends of Kenny Adams will have the opportunity to participate in a Meet & Greet with him on Sunday afternoon from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m next to the SSP Ticket Booth. Adams will sign autographs and have his 2007 t-shirts available as well.
Also, one lucky fan that night will win a used car in the 2nd annual Used Car Giveaway. A ticket will be drawn the all purchased general admission ticket stubs to give the car away.
The next Saturday night event will be next week, May 5 with the Cinco de Mayo Special featuring the Trail Motors Super Sportsman, Late Models and Street Stocks.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night will be Adults and Teens (13 & older) $12.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
Then on Sunday night, May 6, it is the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown (ARCH) Night where all ARCH members will receive $5.00 off the general admission price. Fans will also be treated to the first Great American School Bus race of the season along with the ASCS Sprint Cars in a Mid-Atlantic Regional race paying $1,500.00 to the winner. Joining the ASCS Sprint Cars will be the Xtreme Stock Cars and Classic Cars.
