Genesee Speedway loses season opener to mother nature.

Genesee Speedway staff did everything they could to try and save the racing surface in an effort to try and get the season opener in but when the skies opened up at 5:35pm all efforts were lost and the speedway decided to call the night. The weather forecast called for only a 30% chance of rain and there was only a real light mist all day and the forecast predicted that the rain cell would be out of the area around 4 pm. The cell moved out around 4:15pm but was followed by another cell that carried more than a light drizzle.
“Boy, did the weatherman feed us with the wrong information today” stated Genesee Speedway Promoter Mike Lauterborn. Lauterborn kept the track prep crew busy by keeping the packers on the track doing laps for about an hour to keep the surface from getting away but rains got heavy enough that they couldn’t keep the surface race ready.
Although the weather was not the greatest, seventy-one (71) cars were in the pits and ready for battle and five (5) cars were in the parking lot waiting to come in when the plug was pulled on the program.
May 5th will open the season for Genesee Speedway when Mike Ognibene Ford and Select Collision present the 5 Star Program along with Driver Meet ‘n’ Greet and Pace Car Rides. Pit Gates open at 4pm, Grandstand opens at 5pm and racing gets under way at 6pm.
