School Bus Racing Returns to SSP This Weekend

NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (April 24, 2007) – Racing action returns to the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night, May 5 with the Trail Motors Super Sportsman, Late Models and Street Stocks. Last Saturday night, Steve Wilbur picked up his first win of the season over Smokey Snelbaker in the 20-lap Trail Motors Super Sportsman feature, Carl Billet won his second in a row in the Late Model division and Gary Johnston won the Street Stock main event.



The winner of the Trail Motors Super Sportsman feature will collect $1,400, the Late Model winner will receive $750 and the Street Stock victor will get $400. All feature events will be 20 laps.



Handicapping for all three divisions begins this week. Handicapping for both the heat and features will be based on the total points average for the season with a twelve position handicap for the feature events. A one race penalty will be in effect for any driver missing the prior race at SSP. The winner of the prior week will also start 12th regardless of their point average if they qualify in a handicapping position in their heat race.



On Saturday racing events, the pit gates will open 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. The national anthem will be at 7:00 p.m. followed by last chance consolation races and feature events.



Regular General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday nights will be Adults & Teens (13 & older) $12.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate required for all ages 14 to 18. Prices will be slightly higher for special events.

Then on Sunday night, May 6, it is the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown (ARCH) Night where all ARCH members will receive $5.00 off the general admission price. Fans will also be treated to the first Great American School Bus race of the season along with the ASCS Sprint Cars in a Mid-Atlantic Regional race paying $1,500.00 to the winner. Joining the ASCS Sprint Cars will be the Xtreme Stock Cars and Classic Cars.



There will also be complimentary School Bus rides around the track for fans of all ages at 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.



Last Sunday night’s racing action at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Lucas Wolfe picking up his first ASCS feature of the season. 2006 Track Champion, Michael Goodwin won the 50-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature. Veteran driver, Ronnie Dunstan won the Legends Cars feature event and Brian Fievel was victorious the Speedway Auto Sales main event. Matt Adams picked up the XSC Rookie Rumble race.

- Speedway Flea Market Every Sunday – The “new” Speedway Flea Market continues every Sunday morning 7:00 a.m. (weather permitting). There will be plenty of things for everyone. Vendor fees are $10.00 per day. Space will be limited to a “reasonable” amount for each vendor. This flea market will continue every Sunday through November 25, 2007.



- Repeat Fan Discount in 2007 - There will be a $2.00 discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only (previous Saturday and Sunday). Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.

- “The Outback” Track at SSP – The Outback Track at SSP is currently under construction for Quarter Midgets, karts and more. The days of operation will be Saturdays and/or Sundays beginning in June 2 & 3, 2007 with open practice sessions. Competitive racing is set to begin just after the mid-summer vacation break on July 21 and/or July 22. The days of operation and classes/types of cars or karts will be developed during the open practice sessions. Details will continue to be released as they become finalized.
