Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and 2006 Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert have made plans to race at the Georgetown Speedway in Georgetown , Delaware on Friday night. The Super Late Model standout will join a host of others as they headline the racing action at the speedway on Friday night. Gates will open at 5 pm, hot laps get underway at 7 pm, with racing set to follow at 7:35 pm.
Covert is in his second year driving the Pre-Mach, Inc./Red Wing Shoes/Hershey’s Racing Engines/Baker Carburetion/Bam’s Auto Center/Kuppy’s Diner/Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo for Barry Klinedinst Motorsports. The duo enjoyed great success in their first year together as they racked up five wins along with the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series title over veterans Mike Balzano and Jim Bernheisel.
Covert, from York Haven, Pa enters the Super Late Model event at Georgetown fresh of a third place finish in last Saturday’s Lucas Oil Series race at Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland . It was the teams second third place finish in as many appearances at Hagerstown this year. The team has recorded one victory this year in Super Late Model competition with that win coming in the March 31 event at the historic Williams Grove Speedway in Pennsylvania .
“We have been looking forward to getting over to Georgetown and this weekend works out great for us, said an excited Jason Covert. He went on to add, “I have heard so much about that place and how fast it is so we are really looking forward to racing there as long as everything stays together Thursday night.”
Covert will have hands full when he pulls into the First State speed plant on Friday night. Kenny Pettyjohn of Millsboro , DE collected the first Super Late Model victory of the year and he will surely be a contender again this Friday night. Add fellow regulars Mark Pettyjohn, David Pettyjohn, Rob Schirmer, and Donald Lingo Jr and you have the top five finishers from opening night. Do not discount the competition from Hamburg, PA’s Scott Haus, Centreville, MD’s Scott Cross or Southern Maryland’s David Williams as all of the above mentioned drivers have registered victories and/or championships at some point in their careers.
Racers competing at the Georgetown Speedway are reminded that they must run an American Racer 44 or a Hoosier 1300 or D15 on the right rear only. All cars must be equipped with a working RaceCeiver.
