More Dollars Comes to the Empire Super Sprints Tour 2007: HG Associates, Inc. to Sponsor the Nightly Pole Award.
By Dean Reynolds
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Just one week ago a release announcing all the nightly cash bonuses for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) tour, brought to you by Jacobs Motorsports in 2007, was sent out for all to see. The very last line mentioned that the effort wasn’t going to stop there and thanks to HG Associates, Inc. from Pottstown, Pa. another $50 has been added to the already record nightly payoff.
Harlan Gustafson, known by all as Gus, and his widely know engine building business will take over sole sponsorship of the nightly pole award. The driver who is “lucky” enough to get the pole position for each 25 lap A-Main will get $50 before the green flag is even dropped. ESS uses a handicap system where the driver that earns the most points over the last four races total will start behind all others. But, to add a little luck element a pill draw is also used that will flop a certain amount of cars. While the odds of a tough luck team starting up front is still more than a team that has had good fortune it does give a higher handicap team a chance to improve their starting position.
HG Associates, Inc. has been in business 30+ years. Past customers include Junior Johnson, Jac Haudenschild, Fred Rahmer, Kenny and Freddy Brightbill, Doug Hoffman, Bob Weikert, Stevie Smith, Paul Lotier, Billy Stief, Frank Davis, along with two-time ESS champion Lance Yonge and runner-up in points the past two years Jeff VanDusen. The company was formed in 1969 as a proprietorship with Harlan Gustafson, Jr. as the sole proprietor. In 1979 the company became incorporated in the state of Pennsylvania. The company employs from six (6) to twelve (12) people as engineers, technicians, machinists, and clerical people. The company occupies a building at 114 Airport Rd., Limerick Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania of 12000 sq. ft. in area. The company owns approximately $400,000 worth of machinery including CNC milling machines, engine dynamometer, specialized quality control equipment, special honing equipment, balancing equipment, lathes, presses, and all related machine shop hand tools.
