Spalding leads wire to wire at Hartford.

School was in session Friday night at the Hartford Speedway Park and Curt Spalding was the teacher. The Hartford native lead from wire to wire in his C.J. Rayburn race car. Spalding won the 20 lap UMP Late Model main event by a full straight away. “My crew has worked very hard on this car in the last few weeks.” commented Spalding, who claimed his first feature win of the year. Spalding’s black #111 is sponsored by Safari Joe’s Water Park, All Star Performance, Lane Automotive, & the Warehouse Hair Saloon. Defending track champion Alan Vochaska claimed the runner up position. Randy Woodling turned in a steady performance to come home third. The top five was rounded out by Ron Miller and Tyler Boggs who made his first visit to the big half mile speedway. Heat races were claimed by Spalding & Zack Hanson.
The defending UMP modified champion Larry Vanderwoude, visited Lane Automotive victory lane for the first time in 2007. VanderWoude made a daring three wide pass on the back stretch on Frank Marshall & a lap car to take over the top spot on lap 9. VanderWoude’s #33 Bob Pierce chassis modified is sponsored by Advance Radiology Service, Dorr Standard, CD’s Engine, & Extreme Graphics. Marshall held of the hard charging Bub Patrick in the final few laps to finish in the runner up position. JR Hotovy came home in the fourth spot. Scott Martin making a rare appearance behind the wheel of a modified finished fifth. Martin’s Late Model should be finished in time for the next event. Jeremy Ferguson crossed the line sixth, but came up light at the scales. Heat races were won by VanderWoude & Martin.
Wayne Clauss remains perfect in 2007 in the Factory Stocks. As he claimed his second 20 lap main event of the season, but it was anything but easy. Clauss held of numerous challenges from Jerry Scott & Phil Ausra. The veteran Scott just nipped Ausra for the second spot at the end of race. Tim Bullis checked in to the fourth spot. Jerry Griffith turned in an outstanding performance for the fifth position. Heats races winners were Clauss, Griffith, & Scott. Eric Knight picked up the B Main as 27 Factory Stocks pulled through the gates Friday night.
On the small track Steve Pena gave himself an early birthday present by winning the mini stock main event, Pena who celebrates his birthday on Sunday, scored the win over defending class champion Garrett Jackson. The heat race was won by Jackson. In mini sprint action Trey Smith claimed the 10 lap main event & heat race sweeping the program. Previous feature winner Greg Fawley finished second.
In quad action the A class winner was Ryan Thornton, in the B class it was David McCaig. The B class heat race went to Bobby McCaig . The A class heat was picked up by Todd Atherton.
Next Friday the fire breathing SOD Sprint Cars make there first appearance of the year at the speedway. Also on the card is the Factory Stocks, Mini Stocks, Mini Sprints & the Quads.
