Fuller Scores First Career Super Late Win At Georgetown

Posted by Late Model Editor  |  05/07/07

Tim Fuller of Watertown , NY made his first appearance ever at the Georgetown Speedway a memorable one on Friday night as he scored his first career Super Late Model victory. Fuller held off the late challenges from Seaford ’s Ricky Elliot to cruise to a fifteen car length victory.

Jordan Watson led flag to flag in the Crate Modified race to register his first win of the year. In the nightcap, Ryan Walls recorded his first ever Crate Late Model victory on Friday night after holding off Bobby Watkins.

David Pettyjohn of Milton , DE led twenty-two Super Late Models to the green flag to begin the 25 lap main event. The caution quickly waved by the time the cars reached turn one as Mike Williams took a ride off over the berm. A complete restart was set and the field made it to turn four before the yellow would wave for the second time.

This caution involved eight cars and eliminated locals Dale Lingo and Kenny Pettyjohn as well as visitors Jeremy Miller and Jason Covert. The third attempt was the charm as David Pettyjohn led the field back to green. Tim Fuller got a good jump and took only one lap before disposing of Pettyjohn and taking over the top spot.

Fuller, clearly the class of the field, would only feel some heat after the sixth and final caution bunched the field after nineteen laps. Fuller led Rick y Elliot and his teammate Billy Decker back to the final green and held off two hard attempts from Elliot before posting the memorable victory.

“This place was so fat fast and I was wondering when my first one (win) would come in these cars,” remarked a jubilant Fuller in victory lane. Fuller conclude by telling the fans, “This is my first time here in a Late Model or Modified and I will definitely be back.”

Ricky Elliot worked by GR Smith and David Pettyjohn with an inside sweep in turn four to take second on lap eleven. Elliot was able to pull alongside Fuller one time after the late caution but had to settle for the runner-up spot. Decker used up his equipment coming from the rear as he kept the fans on their feet watching his march forward to finish third. David Pettyjohn held off first time visitor GR Smith over the final two laps as the two rounded out the top five.

Rob Schirmer continued his impressive season as he posted a sixth place finish after starting sixteenth. Mark Pettyjohn worked by Darryl Hills with just three laps left to seventh. Hills was an early challenger for the lead but slipped back to eighth as the race wore on. Scott Cross started second but brought out the sixth caution with a spin and settled for ninth. Mark Elksnis was also involved in some early altercations but still managed to round out the top ten. Heats were won by Dale Lingo and Kenny Pettyjohn.

The Crate Modified and Crate Late Model features are scheduled for twenty laps or thirty minutes and there had to have been a full moon somewhere on Friday night. Both division features were cut short due to the time limit as several cautions slowed each event.

Jordan Watson got a good start and survived eight caution periods over the first nine laps to post his first win of the year. Justin Griffith tried to work by the ReMax machine but had to settle for second place. Jordan’s brother Joseph won the Crate Modified feature two weeks ago and worked his way to the front from tenth to take a third place finish. Easton, MD’s Tim Trimble started thirteenth and was running fourth when the checkers dropped after just nine circuits, leaving him to wonder where he would have finished had the race gone the distance. One time race winner Andy Hammond rounded out the top five. Heats went to Joseph Watson and Justin Griffith.

The Crate Late Model race lasted fourteen laps before the checkers flew over top of Ryan Walls. Eddie Williams led the twenty-five car field to the green flag and held onto the top spot for two laps before Walls squeezed by for the lead.

Williams gave chase for a few laps before Bobby Watkins took over the runner-up spot and the right to challenge. Watkins had nothing for the eventual winner and could only watch as Ryan Walls posted his first career Crate Late Model victory. Mike Wharton started eleventh and worked his way up to third before the seventh and final caution slowed the field. Ross Robinson, winner of both Crate Late Model events in 2007, worked from his tenth starting point to take fourth while Kevin Scott Jr. rounded out the top five. Heat victories went to Stacie Warrington and Robinson.
