Rob Pietz finally found his way back to the winners circle this past Sunday at The New Humberstone Speedway on F.O.A.R Score Racing night in the 360 Sprint Division. Pietz who holds various championships in the sportsman division decided to move up last year the sprint division from modified. The 69 of Pietz, who has always been a crowd favorite with is laid back and approachable racing attitude, captured his first ever 360 Sprint win. Pietz who took the first place spot from Kevin Job on lap 15 sending Job to 2nd place and Tom Huppunen to 3rd. Top 5 were Rob Pietz, Kevin Job, Mike Stelter, Tom Huppunen, Jim Porter. (Heat winners were Kevin Job and Jim Porter)
Brad Sheehan, who has always been a tough competitor but had never brought home a win in the Brians Tire Repair Streetstock Division …. until tonight. Sheehan who lead from green to checker and had a comfortable lead over Kevin Knapp. The real battle was between the 7K of Kevin Kocarik, 117 of Rick Beales and the 310C of the “Candy Man” Mike Dooley for the 5th pace spot, the victor in the end being Rick Beales. An excellent run by rookie StreetStock driver Billy Bleich Jr who managed to capture the 13 spot but managed to run a clean race in the 20 lap event. Top 5 were Brad Sheehan, Kevin Knapp, Paul Wichert, Shayne Pierce, and Rick Beales. (Heat winners were Brad Sheehan, Kevin Knapp and Kevin Kocarik)
In the Cosco Haulage Sportsman division it was the Port Colborne native Greg Panunte who captured the first win of the season. The 99P of Panunte and the 108 of Billy Bleich managed to race cleanly side by side for the entire 20 lap race, playing tug of war along the way for the first place spot. “Billy runs clean, I was able just to stick my nose in there and take the lead, its good when your able to run side by side for 20 laps and no problems”, Panunte told the crowd on victory lane. The quick maneuvering of P38 Rob Pratt slowly worked his way thru the field and was able to challenge Tom Flannigan for the 3rd place spot, but Flannigan a Humberstone regular knew the track too well and was able to hold Pratt off. Excellent run for rookie Rick Bellante, who raced a run clean race and had a blast at the back of the pack. Top 5 were Greg Panunte, Bill Bleich, Tom Flannigan, Rob Pratt, and Nick Cupolo. (Heat winners were Dave Dykstra, Greg Panunte, Tommy Flannigan and Bill Bleich)
In the Open Wheel Lites/Dwarfs Division it was Paul Klager who won the first of three events through out the season. Klager who felt the heat at time from Shawn Sliter and Andy Tallman along the 12 lap race. Rookie Jamie Gilbert was able to hold on to a 4th place finish. Top 5 were Paul Klager, Shawn Sliter, Adam Leslie, Jamie Gilbert, and Andy Tallman. (Heat winner was Shawn Sliter)
Tonight was finally Ed McNamara’s night as he captured his first ever victory in the Niagara Auto Sales Pro 4 Truck Division. McNamara who at times had a 6 car length between him a 2nd place has no real threat from the 2nd place Kevin Aube. Lap 5 had a scary moment when Doug Banner who has already sideways got into Don Lessard and Lessard took a tilt and almost sending him on his roof. Thankfully Lessard was okay and his car was towed into the pits. The accident also claims Banners 29 truck and he has to go into the pits and did not make the return back out. Top 5 were Ed McNamara, Kevin Aube, Marcel Mayer, Steve Brooker and Richard Ramey. (Heat winners were Ed McNamara and Kevin Aube)
It was “Like Father like Son” weekend for the Small family. James Small, who captured victory at Merritville Speedway on Saturday night, set the bar high for his son going into the race on Sunday night. Dave who captured the lead from Abel Castelein with two laps to go in the 12 lap event. The 10S of James Small was able to beat out Trevor Goulding for the 2nd place spot sending the 6 of Goulding to 3rd. But with Tony Kelly right on Gouldings bumper he was able to snatch the 3rd place position on lap 11. Top 5 were Dave Small, James Small, Tony Kelly, Trevor Goulding, and Rob Goulding. (Heat winners were Dave Small, Abel Castelein and Trevor Goulding)
Pit Notes- Matt Castelein in the Ministock division was taken to the hospital for precautionary measures as he was involved in an accident and was talking of having a sore neck and back.
