Race will raise money to help defray medical costs; Fantastic Five racing also on tap
HARTFORD, Ohio (May 8, 2007) - In addition to providing some great racing Saturday night, Sharon Speedway will help an area family and honor moms. The night's events will be sponsored by Trumbull Business College and John Grundy PLLC & Kevin Heater CPA.
Drivers in Sharon's Fantastic Five divisions - Warren Harley-Davidson Sprints, Gibson-Governor Insurance V-8 Modifieds, Coy Brothers Trucking E-Mods, Tom's Sewer & Drain Service Pure Stocks and Limited Sprints - will put on a great show, going wheel-to-wheel for the third race of the season.
The season may be young, but the point battles have already heated up. After two races, Franklin, Pa.'s Bob Felmlee leads the Sprints division; Bob McCann, of New Castle, Pa. is on top in the E-Mods division; Dan Lewis, of Hubbard, Ohio has the most points in the Pure Stocks division; Leechburg, Pa.'s Brian Swartzlander has the lead in the V-8 Modifieds division; and Guy Griffin of Greenville, Pa., sits in the top spot in the Limited Sprints division.
The Fantastic Five drivers won't be the only racers on the track this Saturday, however. Wives and mothers of E-Mod division drivers will be competing in a 12-lap Powder Puff Derby to benefit Tori Marie Roberts, a 5-year-old girl from Mecca, Ohio, who was born with craniosynostosis and chiari malformation. Local businesses have stepped up as lap sponsors for the event and some of Sharon's Fantastic Five drivers will pass their helmets during the Powder Puff race to collect donations for the Roberts family. A Chinese auction will also be held at the speedway on Saturday night with all proceeds going to help defray the costs of Tori's many surgeries.
"We are thrilled to be able to help this family in some small way," said Dave Blaney, Sharon Speedway co-owner. "We appreciate Scott and Cyndi Stiffler organizing this event and trust that it will be successful. Our fans are some of the most generous people around, and I want to thank them in advance for helping the Roberts family."
In appreciation for all the help, love and support moms give every day, Sharon Speedway officials will honor all the mothers in attendance Saturday night.
Tickets for Saturday's show will be available at the gate and remain the same price as last year - $11 for adults (16 and older), $5 for kids (12-15) and free for children 11 and younger. Pit passes are $22, and the pit gate opens at 3 p.m. this season.
Since Saturday is a Fantastic Five points racing night, it is also a "Two for $2" night. Fans who bring two non-perishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank this Saturday will receive $2 off the price of an adult general admission ticket. A representative will collect the food outside the gate from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. only. Everyone who donates two food items will receive a $2 coupon to present at the ticket window, bringing the price of an adult general admission ticket to just $9. All non-perishable food items are accepted, but canned meats, canned vegetables, tuna fish and peanut butter are needed most.
Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Fans can call (330) 772-5481 or visit www.sharonspeedway.com for more information and directions
