Close to 3,000 Pounds of Food Collected
On Saturday May 6th, 2007 close to 3,000 pounds of non-persishable food items were collected for the Brighton Area Food Banks at the Coca-Cola Full Throttle Season Opener at Brighton Speedway. Every admission through the grandstand gate contributed something and got to see the show for a $2.00 admission.
The second year in a row for this event, General Manager Angie Rinaldi said, " We are pleased to be able to make such an impact at a time when food drives are not traditionally the focus of the community. Being the conduit for filling the shelves of the local food bank gives the race track staff, management and most importantly fans a chance to give back to their community while doing something they love, kicking off the racing season. It really is a fulfilling day."
With assistance from Workman Automotive the vans and trucks delivered the goods early this week. Brighton Speedway owner Lou Rinaldi acknowledged the support of this initiative and stated, " Thank you Workmans for your offer to help with delivery, and thank you fans for bringing the load of food that will provide local residents with food security. We are already looking at how we can handle more weight in 2008."
