Baker, Stadelman, Kennedy, Anthony, Curry and Lee Win at Pittsburgh.

Posted by Late Model Editor  |  05/13/07

Pittsburgh’s PA Motor Speedway ran their third show of 2007 Saturday night, on cool, crisp May evening. The Brougher’s Speed Shop Crate Late Models were the first feature on the card. Leo Stadelman Pittsburgh, PA grabbed his first win of the season and third career win in a strong performance. Josh Holtgraver and Bill Westlake brought the field down for the green, with Holtgraver grabbing the lead on the start. A yellow for Kyle Lukon caused a complete restart. Holtgraver grabbed the lead again with Russ Kolesar right behind. Kolesar took the lead on the next lap with Stadelman taking over on lap three. At this point the race was over as Stadelman drove a super smooth race and was never headed. Kyle Lukon recovered from his opening lap spin to charge up thru the field to finish second. A late race yellow gave Lukon a shot at Stadelman, but Leo was up to the task. Kolesar drove the Castelveter 27C to a solid third followed by top rookie Steve Beatty who drove a great race to finish fourth. Jason Rider was fifth, while last week’s winner Daryl Charlier (who overcame a hot laps crash, plus an early spin) to finish sixth followed by Wes Wheeler, Mark Moats Jr. and Scott Schempp. In the heats Leo Stadelman and Kyle Lukon picked up victories.

In the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Models, Fairmont WV’s Steve Baker lived up to his nickname the “WV Rim Rider” to the fullest, using an outside lane to win his first feature of the season. Baker, who started eighth, moved steadily thru the field and was second by lap 6. He passed early leader Jared Miley on lap 7, and never looked back, and ended up winning by over ½ lap and lapping up to the eighth place finisher. It was Baker’s 27th career win and especially sweet as it was the first time his car owners Bill and Michael Bland were able to seen him win. Jared Miley drove a strong race to finish ahead of Lynn Geisler, with an exceptional performance by last week’s winner Brandon Burgoon to finish fourth. Mike Davis was fifth followed by a good run from former asphalt star Tommy Beck in for sixth. Lou Bradich finished seventh followed by Dennis Niederriter, D.J. Miller and Scott Gunn. Dave Wade (who was running fifth in the feature when he dropped out) and Mike Davis grabbed the heats.

Chuck Kennedy Mars, PA grabbed his first win since 2005 in the Miley Truck Rental E-Mods. Kennedy grabbed the lead on lap 3 from son Clayton and was never headed. In victory lane Chuck dedicated the win to his uncle Bob Kennedy who was a top Late Model racer back in the 60’s and 70’s who passed on a few months back. Kevin Miller ran second, with Clayton Kennedy in third followed by hard charger Chris Basich, Mike Basich, Tom Martineck, Wayne Tessean, Jim Glass, and Willy Briggs. Chuck Kennedy and Daryl Charlier grabbed the heat wins.

The Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks were a wild event, which saw Baldwin PA’s Joe Anthony pick up the win. Anthony took the lead on lap 11, when after a three way battle for the lead saw two of the leaders Danny Rich and Jake Simmons crash on the front straight causing Rich to flip three times and end up on top of Simmons. Anthony assumed the lead at this point and won over last week’s winner and hard charger Stacie White. Adam Chytil was third. Followed by Nick Kocuba, Bob Schwartzmiller, Bill Robertson, Aaron Jones, Simmons, Mike Mohn, and Rich. Joe Anthony also won the heat.

Popular Davy Lee, from Independence, PA grabbed his second win of the season in the Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stocks. Lee took the lead from Brian Huchko on lap two and lead the remainder of the event. Curt Bish was second with last week’s winner Bill Tennant third. Huchko finished fourth with Jarred Weiland in fifth followed by Frank Piccolino, John Hatlas, Eric Goldberg and Terry Kerr. Davy Lee also won the heat.

The Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns saw Dusty Curry Dormont, PA grab his second feature of the season. Curry took the lead on lap one and never looked back. Tyler Fox was second and was trailed by Michael Reft, Todd Janus, Devin Tomei, and Tyler Atkinson.
