Dave Heaslip make a great return to Edelweiss Speedway
The season has finally started; it was opening night at Edelweiss Speedway presented by Dupont & Dupont.
Veteran driver Dave Heaslip who decided to make a return this year took a good one when he won the 50 laps feature for the 358 modifieds.
Fifteen cars, took the initial green, only Billy Cook was missing with mechanical problems. Heaslip took the lead on the green and lead the first 22 laps when the first caution of the night happened when Eric Gauveau had a flat tire at the rear. Heaslip was able to keep the lead on the restart, a good battle for second place was occurring with Laurent Ladouceur and Brian McDonald. With problems with is car, Chris Jones brings the second caution of the race on lap 34. Ladouceur is able to grab the lead from Heaslip on the restart but a yellow flag for Philippe Landry slows the race again. When the race resumes, Ladouceur is able to keep the lead. A lap 37 collision between Pierre Dagenais and Denis Larocque brings another caution on the field. Ladouceur is still first followed by Brian McDonald, Heaslip, Dingwall and Lee Ladouceur completes the top 5. A scramble between Jones and Dingwall on lap 39 slows the field again at Jones needs to go on the hook and his night is done. On the following restart, an accident involving many cars happens in turn one and two, only Dingwall needs the towing services and by the same time finishes is night. Ladouceur is able to keep the lead on two other yellow flag on lap 41 and 42, Stéphane Lafrance who manage to get up to second place, makes a move on Ladouceur in turn 1 and there contact between the two cars and that brings the final caution of the race on lap 49. The contact between them end Ladoceur`s night and Lafrance is sent to the back of the field for rough riding. Heaslip who was third wins the 50 lapper followed by Lee Ladouceur, Ron Valade, Stéphane Lafrance, and Pierre Dagenais completes the top 5.
In the post race interview, Heaslip said ‘’I’m too old for this’’. The heats we’re won by Heaslip, Laurent Ladouceur and Dingwall.
Because of the time, the other features could not be presented, the drivers and track owner had to work with a rough racing surface.
In the other classes, Stéphane Lebrun won the Pro-Stock heat, Richard Brady, Serge Lagacé and Mark Trudeau won there`s in the Semi-Pro division. In the 4 cylinders class, Danny Matte and Martin Lagacé won their qualification.
Along with a complete racing program, all the finals that we’re not presented tonight will be done next Friday, May 18 sponsored by Les Fondations BRL. It was also be the first race for the mini-series for the Pro-Stocks and Modifieds.
