WOMEN ON WHEELS TAKING CHARGE THIS SEASON
When the dust settled on the Bill’s Johns Comp 4 Feature Race at Brighton Speedway on May12th, the top 3 finishers were women on wheels. Leslie Turcotte (#2) of Brighton, Caley Weese (#77) of Carrying Place and Ashley Fowler ( #04) of Brighton respectfully made their way to Victory Lane showing their male counterparts that they are a force to be reckoned with this season. Joining these three Comp 4 point leaders is Stacey Ferguson (#1) of Picton who finished 6th in the Feature, but waved the checker for her qualifier. Weese is the leader with Turcotte, Fowler and Ferguson running close behind.
Weese, who has also been running her #77 Brighton Automotive ProStock, finished 7th in that feature, followed closely by the #70 of Jenny Vandertoorn from Brighton. No one stood a chance against Brandon Gregory (#01 of Trenton) in this 30 lap Millbro Automotive Triple Crown Race Event. His first night out saw Brandon starting at the back of the pack in 13th position. By midway he was sitting third and with 5 to go he made an impressive inside pass and took the lead from 2006 Division Champion Ronnie Wadforth (#40) of Trenton. Presenting him with his win were Jay & Lynn Miller of Millbro Automotive. Lynn is the only other woman on wheels and she races #71 in the Mister Signz Pure Stocks, which took a night off to leave time and space for the Southern Ontario Sprints.(SOS Sprint Cars)
Presented by Mix 97 the SOS Sprint Cars started their 2007 racing season with a fleet of 24 cars. All time SOS winner and definite local favourite Rick Wilson (#42w) took the checker away from Craig Downey (#71) who lead most of the race. Leading from the pole and taking the only other feature of the night was the #11 of Dan Ferguson from Picton in the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified Feature.
The next race event, which includes the C.Smith Automotive Big Birthday Party featuring the Lucas Oil May 2-4 Canadian Modified Twin 40’s and FREE Seat Cushion Giveaway, is scheduled for May 19th. The first 400 Adult fans through the gate will receive cushions from Lucas Oil and the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds will be celebrating 40 years of Brighton Speedway racing by running two 40 lap feature races in one show!!
