SIX EXCITING CLASSES, SIX NEW FACES IN VICTORY LANE AT MOUNTAIN DEW BLOOMFIELD SPEEDWAY

By Tony Paris

BLOOMFIELD, Iowa (May 11) - After nearly a month of being washed out, the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series made its way back to the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway with six exciting classes in action sponsored by Elmer Wood Company and Jim Lynch Farms. All six divisions saw new faces in victory lane and one driver picking up his first ever win.

In the first feature of the night, the USRA Stock Cars made their way to the track for 15 laps of action with Colt Mather and Matt Greiner battling for the race lead before Mike Robinson raced his way from the eighth starting spot to make it a three-wide race for the lead. Mather, however, held off several tries from Robinson to take the win with Robinson taking the runner-up spot, Greiner in third and Chris leathers of Callao, Mo., taking fourth after leading the first lap of action.

The second feature of the night was the Mid-America 305 Winged Sprints in action for their first appearance of the season at Bloomfield with Chad Huston of Jamesport, Mo., and Mike Mayberry of Fremont leading the field to the green flag. Huston set a blistering pace and looked to have the first win of his career in hand. The caution flag flew for Rob Kubli of Milo crossing up the No. 23k and closing the field back up for Mayberry to have a chance at Huston. Huston restarted as the leader but Mayberry went wheel-to-wheel in turns 1-2 and made the pass on lap 13, then led the final three laps for his first ever win. Huston took the runner-up spot with 10th-starting Matt Stephenson edging Josh Padellford for the third spot. Stephenson took the Owl’s Nest Chance for $100 if he could win from the back, but wound up two spots short. Veteran racer Bob Lamb of Mitchellville grabbed the fifth spot in the No. 47 machine and also took home the Lancaster Oil Company Race to the Finish Award. The First Choice Realty Mystery Spot went to Mitchell Alexander of Knoxville in eighth, and the Haines Auto Supply Hard Luck Award went to Louis Lynch of Glenwood, Mo., who had a short night after suffering drive line problems.

In the third feature of the night, Paul Underwood of Ottumwa made it two straight wins at Bloomfield by winning the USRA B-Mod feature. Underwood held off Andrew Schroeder of Keswick while Cody Townsend of Bloomfield took the third spot.

The fourth feature saw the Hornets going 10 laps with Dale Porter of Floris taking the win over last week's winner, Ryan Yanke of Bloomfield. The third spot went to local racer Kevin Garrett and Keith Engle of Moravia snared the fourth spot.

In the USRA Hobby Stock main event, Steve Allen of Oskaloosa paced the field for the first three laps before Jason McDaniel of Eldon and Derek Kirkland of Centerville made it a three-wide racing for the lead. McDaniel took the lead on lap 4 with Kirkland in second and Allen in third. McDaniel held off several challenges form Kirkland, while Jim Walker made the pass for second on the last lap to take the runner-up spot. Allen finished behind Kirkland in fourth.

The final feature of the night was the USRA Modified main event going 16 laps with Ron Ver Beek of Oskaloosa leading the field to the green flag and pacing the field through lap 5. Steve Stewart of Washington battle with Ver Beek and made the pass on lap 6, then led the final 10 laps for the win. Jim Lynch of Bloomfield and Ver Beek battled for the second spot with Lynch making the pass after coming form the eighth starting spot. Brandon Banks of Washington worked his way from seventh spot to third and Ver Beek hanging on for the fourth spot.

Next week at the Mountain Dew Bloomfield Speedway will feature the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series presented by Community First Bank. Gates will open at 5 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7. Grandstand admission will be $9 for adults and $7 for juniors (ages 12-17) and seniors (age 62 and older).
