Last week Matt Castlelein was being taken out of the speedway in an ambulance, this week he is doing a victory lap with a checker flag. Castlelein was back out with a vengeance in the Kendal Oil Ministock Division on Colonial Flower Shop night at The New Humberstone Speedway. Castelein lead the race from start to finish, but it was not an as easy win as rookie Aaron Wiley was looking for his second win of the 2007 season. Wiley who had pressure on Castlelein for the entire 15 lap race. The final laps looked like it could be anyone’s race when lap traffic held up leaders a bit, but Castlelein was able to secure the victory. Top 5 were Matt Castlelein, Aaron Wiley, Brandon Iudiciani, Abel Castelein, and Charlie Lynch. (Heat Winners were Aaron Wiley and Charlie Lynch)
Castelein wasn’t the only driver that was back with a vengeance, last week Don Lessard almost tips over on his roof, this week he is also doing a victory lap with checkered flag in the Niagara Auto Sales Truck Division winning his first ever truck feature. Lessard who had heat from both Doug Banner and John Lowe at some point within the 15 lap race was able to hold both off. Last years point champion Doug Banner went a little too high in turn 4 on lap 14 which allowed the 13 of Rob Anthes to take second and sending Banner to 3rd. Rob Anthes who placed 2nd in the feature was disqualified in a post tech inspection, moving everyone up one spot.
In the first New York Modified visit to The New Humberstone Speedway it was 15 year old Zack Morgan who captured the checked flag. Morgan who led from green to checker and managed to keep the 95 of Jim Radney at bay the entire race. Top 5 were Zack Morgan, Jim Radney, Timex Morgan, Dan Miller, and Kevin Norton. (Heat winners were Timex Morgan and Zack Morgan)
In a thrilling StreetStock race Bill Hogue proved why he is the reining Humberstone Speedway champ and Cody McPherson proved he will one day be one. Hogue and McPherson who fought from lap 6 on for the first place spot. Racing panel to panel for more than 10 laps, not once touching each other, even crossing the finish line on lap 15 nose to nose. In the end it was Silly Billy Hogue who captured the victory and Rick Beales was able to take second from McPherson at the finish line. Top 5 were Bill Hogue, Rick Beales, Cody McPherson, Kevin Knapp, and Paul Wichert. (Heat winners were Cody McPherson and Bill Hogue)
It was bittersweet victory for Travis Braun. Braun, who led the race from start to finish, was disqualified in a post tech inspection so the win was given to Mike Bowman. The battle for 3rd place was between the 2k of Rob Knapp, the 77 of B.J Willard and the reining sportsman champ Dave Dykstra. A battle that would be won by the 5 of Dykstra. Top 5 were Mike Bowman, Dave Dykstra, Wayne Conn, B.J Willard, Bill Bleich, (Heat winners were Travis Braun, Jim Johnstone and Jeff Leggett)
Last night we also introduced our new Weekend Warriors division, with only three participants this week, word is out and there is a lot of interest in this class. The first race was won by Will Schwemler, with Roger Gilbert edging out Lenie Sliter for 2nd in a last lap move, moving Sliter to 3rd. Heat winners was Roger Gilbert
