Daggett dominates as McLean wins first.
The SOD Sprint Cars made there first visit of the season at Hartford Speedway Park and it was the Dustin Daggett show. Daggett punished the other 19 competitors in a old time trashing on the big half mile. The red 2m sprint car lapped all but, the top five finishers. Ohio driver Phil Gressman finished almost a full lap behind race winner Daggett. Darren Long and Mike Dussel managed to claim the third and fourth positions. The Hoosier Rocket Brett Mann was the last driver on the lead lap, coming home fifth. The three heat races were claimed by Ron Blair, Daggett, and Long. 22 winged sprint cars checked in for the first of four visits to the speedway this year.
Hobart, Indiana Factory Stock driver Bob McLean scored his first main event win Friday night. McLean a former multi-track champion at the now closed Crown Point Speedway became a familiar face on Friday nights last season. McLean used a lap 9 restart to work his Mary Shirey, Walts Welding, Hardins Speed Service, Express Auto sponsored car past early leader Jerry Scott. Former class champion Phil Ausra challenged the c21j throughout the closing stages on the 20 lap event to claim the runner-up spot. The third and fourth place drivers Lee Price and Eric Knight received a much needed finish to turn around what has been a very rough start for the talented duo. Hartford driver Dave Strunk claimed the fifth position in a outstanding ten mile performance. Wayne Clauss who had claimed the previous two main events broke a transmission in heat race action sidelining him for the rest of the evening.
The largest field of mini sprints this year converged at the small track Friday night. Defending class champion Dusty Harden bested a talented field of 12 drivers to claim his first feature win if the year. The runner up spot was claimed by Wayne Miller and Joe Harden making his first visit of the year rounded out the top three. In the 15 lap Mini Stock main event Steve Pena scored another feature win holding of the hard charging Kielea Antherton and Sara Porter.
In the wild and crazy quad divisions main events, it was Ryan Thornton holding on the A Class 15 lapper. Jason Bentzer was the next rider across the line, with Brandon Thornton finishing third. Todd Antherton crashed hard in the main event, he was conscious and transported to the local hospital for further observation. The B class was once again the McCaig show, as David McCaig claimed the win and a photo opportunity from Doug Swift in victory lane. Josh Sheeley was the runner up, with Craig Moore closing out the top three.
This Friday at Michigans fastest half mile, the Factory Stocks return to action along with the second enduro of the year. The enduro is scheduled for 150 action packed laps under the lights.
