Steve King Foundation Motorcycle Fun Run and Memorial Race

JETMORE, Kan. (May 18, 2007) – Two events benefiting the Steve King Foundation will be held on Sunday, June 17, in Park City , Kan . 81 Speedway will host a motorcycle "Fun Run" in the afternoon followed by a “Steve King Foundation Night” at the speedway featuring the O'Reilly/NCRA Sprint Car Series, presented by ICM/Ethanol, along with the Kansas Antique Racers.

To participate in the Fun Run, sign up at Alefs Harley-Davidson, I-135 and 53rd Street North in Park City . Sign up is from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. The entry fee is $20 per bike for one or two riders. Fee includes admission to “Steve King Foundation Night” at the races at 81 Speedway, which begins at 7 p.m. Fun Run participants will enjoy free hot dogs, chips and soft drinks from 5-6 p.m. at the hospitality center at the speedway. Door prizes will also be given away, and special 50/50 tickets will be available for purchase.

Steve King memorabilia and the CD “Eighty Eight – A tribute to Steve King” by Ben Bolling will be available for purchase during the race event.

“It's a great honor for 81 Speedway to host a Steve King Foundation event. After all the support that the King family has given racing since the inception of NCRA, Danny winning a championship with Dave Fruesher, then two with Steve. We are excited about the opportunity to assist with the foundation in this manner,” said C. Ray Hall, 81 Speedway general manager.

“Steve was the stabilizing force behind King Racing. He will always be missed in racing because of his personality both on and off the track. He will always be a true champion," added Hall.

King had run primarily in the NCRA and ASCS circuits before his death in August after injuries sustained at the Knoxville Nationals in Knoxville , Iowa . His accomplished career, which started in 1989, included 17 NCRA sprint car feature victories and two NCRA Sprint Car Series Championships. One of Steve’s wins came at 81 Speedway on July 4, 2005.

The Steve King Foundation was established to help people involved in racing across the country by providing aid to race car drivers, pit crew members, racing officials, track operations personnel or the immediate families of those individuals who are involved in dirt track racing and are seriously ill, severely injured or killed. The foundation will also contribute to organizations and facilities dedicated to improving the safety of the sport.

The Steve King Fund was established as part of the Hodgeman County Community Foundation to help residents of Hodgeman County .

The Foundation has applied for 501(c)3 status, making all donations tax deductible.
