Mark down Thursday, May 31 as one of the biggest nights of the year at the historic Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown , New York . Not only will the traveling Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRTcar Series teams roll into town, NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series driver Carl Edwards and car owner Jack Roush will also be making a return visit to the Hard Clay track.
The invaders will battle Orange County ’s talented corps of top Big-Block Modified drivers in a full slate of Integra Shocks time trials, qualifying heat races, and a $6,000-to-win 75-lap feature race. The Middletown main will be the fourth on the Advance Auto Parts SDS trail. Current AAP points leader Tim Fuller won the season opener at Hagerstown ( Md. ) Speedway while “The Doctor” Danny Johnson captured the checkered flag at Virginia Motor Speedway. A Memorial Weekend Series race at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in Weedsport , New York precedes the Orange County meet.
While Invader Billy Decker won last year’s Series race, the Orange County drivers can’t be counted out. Defending track champion and all-time Orange County victor Brett Hearn plus former track titlists Jeff Heotzler, Chuck McKee and Rich Eurich will be out to uphold hometown bragging rights on the five-eighths-mile speedway.
And as an added bonus, the DIRTcar 358-Modifieds will also be in competition, culminating in a 25-lap feature race for the small-block cars.
The top Modified teams in the Northeast; Orange County ’s own Modified racing stars; special guests Carl Edwards and Jack Roush; the exciting 358 Modifieds---it all adds up to a great night of stock car racing at Orange County Fair Speedway.
Co-sponsors for the Thursday night race meet include Cedar Ridge RV Center, Advance Auto Parts, and WRWD 107.3 & 99.3.
Gates open at 4:30 pm with the first race set for 6:30 pm. General admission for the Advance Auto Parts Modified Super DIRTcar Series race is $22. Parking on the fairgrounds is free while there is a $1.00 charge for drive-in section parking. The drive-in parking fee goes towards the drivers’ point funds.
