Boughan and Luchini Score Popular Wins

Four Banger Friday at Limaland Motorsports Park had all the drama and excitement you could ask for in a night of racing. The USAC Ford Focus Midgets made their annual trip to Limaland to showcase the future stars of open wheel racing and Limaland's three weekly divisions continued to wage championship battles on the famed quarter-mile's high-banks.

The Professional Computer Company Modifieds were the first feature of the evening. After heat race wins by Tony Anderson, Terry Hull, and Gary Richard, plus the customary inversion, Josh Lolmaugh found himself on the pole for the first time in 2007. Darryl Banks continued his strong showing this year by leading the first nine laps. Jon Henry, last week's victor, took control on lap ten. Two laps later, a caution for a six-car pile up found Henry on the front stretch with Frankie Luchini's car wedged underneath the left rear. After the restart, Luchini wrestled the lead from Henry on lap 13 and pulled away for his first victory of the year. Modified drivers beware; Luchini, known for his high-line heroics, dominated the race ON THE BOTTOM!

Next up was the USAC Ford Focus Midgets. Only one heat race was run and it was won by Chett Gehrke. Gehrke led all twenty of the feature laps and extended his point lead for the series championship.

The third feature of the night was a 25-lap showcase of speed as Rick Boughan led green to checkers in the Elwer Fence Sprints division. Boughan fended off the challenges of Jeff Williams and Mike Dussel after two early cautions. Dennis Yoakam vaulted off an infield tire in turn four and took a nasty tumble down the frontstretch bringing out the only red flag of the evening. Boughan held serve on the final restart and avoided a spinning Jared Horstman on the final lap to take his first career victory at Limaland. Sprint heats were won by: Phil Gressman, Mike Miller, and Darren Long.

The Bud Thunderstock feature was, for the most part, a family affair between Jeff Babcock and Barney Craig. Babcock grabbed the lead at the drop of the green with Craig tucked in directly behind him. The two relatives took their battle to the high-side with Craig waiting to capitalize on any miscue by Babcock. In the meantime, a wily veteran, Tony Anderson, was working the low groove and inching his way towards the point. The three drivers battled the final six laps but neither Craig nor Anderson could make the decisive pass on Babcock. For Jeff Babcock, it was his second victory in four races. Heat race winners were: Tim Bowen, Tony Anderson, and Earnie Woodard.

Your next chance to be part of the celebration of 72 years of racing action is next week when Limaland Motorsports Park presents the 9th Annual Memorial Cup featuring the EFI-NRA Sprint Invaders, Professional Computer Company Modifieds and Bud Thunderstocks. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing on America's premier quarter-mile begins at 7:30 p.m.
