Ausra Awesome at Hartford Speedway Park.
Phil Ausra maybe a former Hartford Speedway Park Factory Stock champion, but he is the undisputed race restart champion on the big half mile. The Dowagiac, Michigan driver used a few great restarts on his way to the 20 lap main event win. He slipped past early race leader Dennis Gilbert on a restart just shy of half way to claim his first feature win of the year . The ten mile event was marred by several hard crashes., including last weeks winner Bob McClean, Jim Drane, Andy Bisbee, and early leader Dennis Gilbert all leaving the speedway courtesy of the wrecker.
Ausra blue & yellow #15 is sponsored by Ausra Equipment, Monster Energy Drink, Trikl-Eez Company, Red Arrow Building Supply, Division Tire, Bongmos Collision Center, T-Tape by T-Systems, Torco Race Fuels, Nick @ Night DJ Service, R&D Electric, 99 Signs, Lane Automotive and Lake Michigan Produce. Eric Knight once again showed that he will be a major contender in 2007 with a solid runner up finish. Lee Price kept his nose clean to round out the top three. Randy Frank placed a season high fourth spot, with newcomer Tim Bullis claiming his first top five at the speedway. Wayne Clauss started on the tail of the field in a enduro car, after he lost oil pressure in his Factory Stock after his heat race. In a spirited drive, Clauss salvaged a good point night with a eight place finish.
Scott Lindsey won the second enduro of the season on Friday night. Lindsey managed to shake off the bad luck that many of the front runners occurred during the 150 laps. Lap 151 was a different story, after taking the checkered flag the #24 broke something in the right front sending the winner into the concrete in turn one. So courtesy of the wrecker the Dowagiac driver was pulled in to Lane Automotive Victory Lane. Bill May who won the first enduro earlier in the year finished in the runner up spot. Mike Ely who lead late in the event was running second in the closing stages when he spun in turn two and was collected hard by Rich Loomis on lap 148. Steve Carpenter ran a clean race to finish fourth. Jesse Scott III was a factor on Friday night, leading laps near the half way point. Scott III cut down a right front tire forcing him to give up the lead and ultimately a broken rear axle caused Scott III to call it a night.
The enduro stars and cars will return for the third time in 2007 on Friday night June 15th. Next week the UMP Late Models, UMP Modifieds, Factory Stock, Mini Sprints, Mini Stocks, and Quads all return to action at the Hartford Speedway Park. Racing starts at 8PM at the states fastest half mile dirt oval. You can visit HartfordSpeedwayPark.com to keep up on the latest information.
