HARTFORD, Ohio; May 19, 2007 - On the fourth night of racing at Sharon Speedway this season, the FANtastic Five looked to hit the 3/8-mile oval, but rain halted action just after the first feature was in the books. The evening was sponsored by Mark Thomas Ford.
Jim Rasey took the lead on the third lap, and went on to grab the checkered flag in the Gibson-Governor Insurance Modified feature. Dave Schrader and Bob Dorman paced the field to the green flag in the 25-lap feature. Schrader led the field out of the first corner, with Kristyak following him. On the second circuit, Rasey drove his way to second spot. The driver from Southington did not stop there, as he used moisture on the low side of the speedway to grab the lead away from Schrader one lap later. Rex King, who started seventh, moved to third position with four laps on the board. Rasey, who took the green flag in fifth, pulled out to a two-car length lead over King. The two cars were in lockstep as the leaders caught traffic. But, the real battle was going on behind the top two spots. Del Rougeux, Russell King, Schrader and Brian Swartzlander all scuffled for third, with Rougeux coming out on top just before the yellow flag flew for a Jeremy Paup spin on lap No. 12. On the restart, Russell King jetted his way to third. A second caution flag bunched the field up behind Rasey on lap No. 14. Rex King poked his nose on the inside of Rasey's No. 32, but Rasey slammed the door. King then moved to the cushion, with Rasey once again holding him off. Rasey looked to be well on his way to his first victory of the season when the yellow flag flew on the 23rd lap. Prior to the caution, Rasey led King by as much as 10 car lengths. Nonetheless, Rasey was able to hold off the father and son duo of Russell and Rex King on his way to the checkered flag. Russell King was second, with his dad Rex King third. Brian Swartzlander finished fourth and Rob Curtis rounded out the top five. Rasey and Curtis took the heat races.
In the Tom's Sewer and Drain Service Pure Stocks, Jarod Larson and Dwayne Clay made up the front row in the feature. Before the field exited turn No. 2 on the first lap, Dan Lewis and Steve D'Apolito spun in two separate incidents, resulting in a complete restart. Before the restart occurred, racing was halted with moisture falling on the speedway. Will Aley, D'Apolito and Sonny Wisler were the heat race winners. The pure stock feature was postponed, and will be run first next Saturday (May 26).
In heat race action for the Warren Harley-Davidson Sprint Cars, Bob Felmlee and Russ Sansosti were the winners. Because of the rain, the 25-lap sprint feature will be held second next Saturday (May 26).
Guy Griffin was victorious in the only heat for the Limited Sprints. In the Coy Bros. Trucking E-Mod Division, Alan Dellinger and Bob McCann won the heat races. The Limited Sprint and e-mod features will be made up on June 2.
