Weaver Scores First CNY DIRT Win

FULTON, NY – Brian Weaver has won a lot of things in his career. The 44-year-old has won features, he’s won track titles, but on Saturday night he did something he’s never been able to do. The Windsor, N.Y. pilot scored his first career DIRTcar Modified feature win in the 35-lap main event at the Fulton Speedway.

“This is a huge confidence booster for us,” stated Weaver. “We’ve been struggling with the weekend stuff because I’m still trying to adjust to the DIRT tires.

“We did some things different tonight and hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.”

Weaver bolted to the top spot from his outside pole starting position as the race got underway. Weaver beat Matt Fink into turn one and pulled away off of the second turn.

“I just beat him (Fink) into turn one and I got good pull down the back straightaway,” said Weaver. “I was fortunate that I was able to parlay that into a feature win.”

Once the race leader, Weaver was only slowed once by a caution on lap 4 when Brett Tonkin and Vinnie Vitale spun in turn four.

When the race got back underway, Weaver began to pull away from the field in his Ron Dieffenbach owned ride.

As Weaver raced out in front he faced his final challenge on lap 30 when he was confronted by lapped traffic for the first time. Weaver continued to run the inside and was able to hold off Scott Prentice and Alan Johnson to secure the victory.

“I kept the car straight and tried to stay smooth without giving up the inside lane,” said Weaver. “If somebody was going to pass me they were going to have to go to the outside.

With Weaver taking the win, Prentice was forced to settle for second in his Enders powered Bicknell.

“My only chance would have been if he (Weaver) went high,” said Prentice. “I used the outside to get to the front but once I got to second it seemed like there was nothing up there.”

Prentice, of Hastings, N.Y., was happy to have a solid finish after last weekend.

“We have a really tough weekend,” commented Prentice. “I had to put a new front end in the car after last Saturday and last Friday I destroyed the rear.

“I’m happy we came away with a good finish.”

Johnson, of Phelps, N.Y., finished in third after starting the feature event from the outside of row six.

“I couldn’t go to the outside,” said Johnson. “The car was good enough to go forward but by the end of the race you had to run the bottom.”

Jimmy Phelps of Baldwinsville, N.Y., finished in third after starting 14th and Sean Beardsley of Central Square, N.Y. completed the top five.

In other action, the 20-lap Sportsman feature went to Shawn Donath; the 20-lap Pro Stock feature was won by Jason Parkhurst; Dan Williams won the 20-lap ESDCA feature; the Gypsum Crate Sportsman feature was won by Sean McCarthy; Jon Shumway won the 4-Cylinder Enduro.
