The World of Outlaws continue their Eastern swing on Monday, May 28 with a stop at the spacious 5/8-mile Rolling Wheels Raceway Park in Elbridge , New York . Fans will be treated to the ongoing battle for the top spot in the championship standings between reigning series champion Donny Schatz and Joey Saldana. Prior to rain forcing postponement of the Orange County Fair Speedway event until Sept. 26, Schatz led Saldana by just 38 markers.
Aramark presents the Rolling Wheels special that features a 25-lap main event for the WoO Sprints plus a full card for the DIRT Sportsman Modifieds. Schatz, a native of Fargo, North Dakota and driver of the potent yellow no. 15 ParkerStore J&J, began the Eastern swing with four A-Feature wins on the season and added two more after sweeping the May 17-18 doubleheader at Williams Grove (PA) Speedway. Brownsburg , Indiana native Saldana owns five A-Feature wins and is among the series leaders in laps led and fast time categories.
Daryn Pittman ranked third in championship point standings on the strength of two wins including the finale of the season-opening Florida DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park , as well a triumph on the ¼-mile at Riverside Int’l Speedway in Arkansas . Jason Meyers climbed to the fourth spot in points, winning his first race of the season in April at the famed Eldora Speedway before following up with a win in May in his first-ever visit to U.S. 36 Raceway in Missouri. Danny Lasoski began the Eastern swing sixth in points with a win at Paducah Int’l Raceway in Kentucky in April and his recent success in Pennsylvania improved the 2001 World of Outlaws champion’s position to fifth heading to New Egypt (NJ) Speedway for the Sun., May 20 showdown.
Schatz, Pittman and Saldana finished 1-2-3 last May at Rolling Wheels while Stevie Smith Jr. was clocked at 16.771 sec. a year ago to pace the field of 32 entries. Craig Dollansky holds the one-lap track record (15.952sec/141.048mph) at RWR, a mark he established in June of 2004.
