Center Lisle, NY --- Mike Colsten grabbed his first win of 2007 in the
Big
Block Modified feature event, while Tim Votra would snag the first of
the
year and career in his Sportsman ride. Other winners on the night
included
Steven Deinhardt in the Hurricane Street Stocks, Bruce Kindberg of the
600cc
Modifieds, and Steve Simpson in the Road Warrior ranks.
The Don’s Automotive Mall Big Block Modifieds opened their feature
with
polesitter, Scott Brady, jumping out to the early advantage in his #77x
machine. The Oakland Hotel ride of Brady appeared to be up to task, as
he
would open up a sizeable lead over the first 9 laps, until a lap
traffic
melee in turn 2 would bring out the caution and tighten up the field.
Brady
would choose to restart on the bottom, while the cagy veteran, Mike
Colsten
of Binghamton, NY, would realign on the top side of Brady. With the
drop of
the green flag, Colsten would make his winning move by getting a
monstrous
run on the high side, and never looking back on the rest of the stout
field.
This would be the first win of the season for the Don’s Automotive
Mall
#51 of Colsten, while Scott Brady would hang on to finish a career
best,
2nd. Jeff Sheely, Ricky Yetter, and Brent Wilcox would round out the
top 5.
In the Autoworks Sportsman Modified ranks, a new bar is being set by
the up
and coming wheelmen in these rides. Tim Votra of Marathon, NY would
lead
every single lap in the 20 lap feature go. This flag to flag victory
was
the first of Votra’s budding career. The 2006 track champion, Ryan
Olsommer, would move up from his 4th starting position to finish 2nd,
while
Kevin Jordan proved his consistency in finish 3rd. The story of the
race
was rookie Chris Stull, however. In his first ever Sportsman start,
the
Virgil native would come from his 12th starting spot to finish 4th,
while
Matt Letwinski would complete the top 5.
It was déjà vu for the Billy’s Auto Sales & Service Hurricane
Streets
Stocks, as Deposit’s Steven Deinhardt won his 2nd feature in as many
weeks.
Deinhardt came out 3rd on the starting grid, but he would play the
waiting
game, as race leader “Rollin’ Thunder” Rich Green would develop a
heavy push
in his Rosie’s Restaurant #35. The door opened wide enough, as
Deinhardt
would seize the opportunity and cruise home to win number 2 on the
young
season. Johnny Cooper Jr. had his best finish of the season on his
2007
comeback tour by bringing home a bridesmaid finish. “The Renaissance
Man”
Harold Humphrey wheeled his #78H to a 3rd place finish, and Jason
Waibel
finished a career-best 4th. The original 5th place finisher, Rich
Sharpsteen was disqualified following post-race tech inspection, moving
up
Rich Green to the spot by default.
Lakewood, PA’s Steve Simpson led flag to flag in the Road Warrior
feature
event. Simpson was finally able to shake the monkey off his back and
grab
his first win of the 2007 season.
Bruce Kindberg broke the Mike Keppler win streak by piloting his #01
Bruce’s
Speed Shop 600cc Modified to the victory.
Next week’s racing action will get underway Saturday, May 26th with
the
gates opening at 4 PM, and the racing action starting at 6:30 PM.
Saturday’s show will feature our regular 6 class card of Modifieds,
Sportsman, Hurricane Street Stocks, 600cc Modifieds, Road Warriors, and
Road
Bandits, as well as another make-up feature for the Road Bandits.
Sunday,
May 27th will play host to the T3 All Star Series for the Modifieds, as
well
as Late Models, Hurricane Street Stocks (Double Points), Road Warriors
(Double Points), Road Bandits (Double Points), and a $300 to win 4 & 6
Cylinder Enduro, with trophies also being awarded to the podium
finishers.
The Hurricane Street Stocks are racing for coveted Hurricane Qualifiers
for
the annual “Hurricane” Harry Uhl Jr. Hurricane Street Stock
Memorial race in
September. In light of Skyline Raceway’s “Hoppy on the Hill”
Memorial Race
for the Pure Stocks, Thunder Mountain management has decided to open
the
gates for the Hurricane Street Stocks at 2:30 PM, with their racing
action
getting underway at 4 PM. Their heats and features will be completed
before
our regularly scheduled show, so that these teams have the option to
travel
to Blodgett Mills for their special event. Following the completion of
the
Hurricane Street Stock events, the rest of the show will resume at 6:30
PM.
There will be a $15 entry for all enduro competitors, however, this
will
allow for all regular Road Bandit competitors to get in some more hot
and
heavy, always entertaining enduro action, without breaking the bank.
All
people, all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to compete in this
40
lap fiasco. Rules for this enduro event are located on our website.
Thunder Mountain Speedway is the 2007 home of the Short Track
SuperNationals
and hosts racing every Saturday night from April through October. June
2nd
is the official Ted Musgrave Day at the speedway, where the former
Craftsman
Truck Series champion will be attendance for a meet & greet, as well as
to
try out the ultra smooth race surface. The Speedway is located off
exit 8
of Interstate 81. From there follow route 79 west for five miles and
turn
right in Center Lisle and follow the signs. For more information about
