40th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION A SUCCESS
The C.Smith Automotive Big Birthday Party featuring the Lucas Oil May 2-4 Canadian Modified Twin 40’s was a definite success as track conditions continued to permit real pedal to the metal, mud flying racing action for a packed house on May 19th 2007. Following an intermission filled with more than 400 cupcakes the Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modifieds hit the 1/3 mile clay oval for two 40 lap feature events.
Aggressive driving and desire to win saw #1 Shawn Gregory, the 2006 Division Champion, start in 11th position and make his way to the front of the pack and into Victory Lane in the first event. Allowing the cars to rest and drivers to prepare for the second 40 lapper, saw the Brighton Automotive ProStock win go to the Campbellford Chrysler Driver of the Week Brandon Gregory of Trenton in the #01, his second feature win in as many weeks. The Mister Signz Pure Stock win went to #8 Gary Vandertoorn of Brighton, his first of the season.
With seven cars not able to start the second 40 lap feature due to different mechanical issues, Charlie Sandercock, #57 of Trenton, took the race from his 5th place starting position, held his line and waved the black and white. Overall point winner for the two races was Doug O’Blenis, #32, of Shannonville. The final Feature Winner of the night was the #09 of Robbie Wilson from Belleville in his Bill’s John’s Comp 4. Robbie was a double winner as he won his qualifier heat also.
The next race event is a celebration of literacy as HMS Host ,Trenton Travel Plaza presents the General Mills Race to Read presentations. It is also the first race for the new Stinger Class being introduced as part of the on-going 40th Anniversary Season celebrations at Brighton Speedway. Green flag flies at 7:00pm.
