ABOUT THE TRACK
Cayuga County is a high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval. Alan Johnson established the single lap record in an Advance Auto Parts SDS event when he circled the track in 15.647 seconds (86.279 mph) on Sept. 3, 2006; Johnson also set fast time of 15.687 seconds (86.059 mph) for the Hall of Fame Classic on May 26, 2002. ‘A.J. Slideways’ is the defending Cayuga County season points champion while touring star Jimmy Phelps is the current points leader. Danny Johnson captured the '07 season-opener in Weedsport and added two more Big-Block feature wins with Phelps taking the only other Modified checkered flag at The Port this season.

TRACK HISTORY
For many years known as Weedsport Speedway, the Cayuga County Fair Speedway and surrounding fairgrounds have grown in both size and stature since the early era of stock car racing. Under the guidance of Drivers Independent Race Tracks founder Glenn Donnelly, the modernized facility has gained national recognition as the headquarters of DIRTcar Racing NorthEast and site of the DIRT NorthEast Hall of Fame and Classic Car Museum . One of three founding-member speedways in 1976 when DIRTcar was formed, the 2007 season marks Cayuga County ’s 53rd consecutive season of stock car racing with the first event staged in July of 1955. When Stanley Dudzinski first began carving out a third-mile oval in his berry patch using railroad ties to mark the frontstretch wall, he never dreamed that five decades later the same field would become synonymous with the leading short-track sanctioning body of dirt racing in the country and offer nationally televised Big-Block Modified events. This season nearly 30 race dates have been inked to include open-wheel Modified, winged Sprint Car, full-fender Late Model, Street Stock and BattleKarz racing, with events running from April through October.

NEWS & NOTES
Autograph Seekers: The Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series always attracts the best Big-Block Modified teams from around the entire DIRTcar Racing NorthEast circuit. When the heavy haulers roll into Cayuga County Fair Speedway for the Hall of Fame Classic on May 27 another all-star field will be lining pit road. To make the 2007 edition even more memorable, fans in attendance are invited to participate in a special ‘Meet the Stars’ autograph session to be held on the front stretch beginning at 6:30 pm. Fans of all ages will want to take advantage of this rare opportunity to get up close and personal with today’s biggest stars and take home an autograph or snap-shot to commemorate this truly landmark occasion.
Hall of Fame Calling For Modern-Day Heroes: Canadian veteran Dave Heaslip, New Jersey standout Billy Osmun and transplanted New Yorker Dick May will be inducted into the DIRT MotorSports NorthEast Hall of Fame on Memorial Day Weekend. These three driving greats add their names to a growing list of Modified legends that was started in 1992 when the building was officially christened the DIRT MotorSports Hall of Fame and Classic Car Museum in Weedsport , N.Y. At least a dozen more potential Hall of Fame candidates will be in competition later that same day, giving those fans in attendance a glimpse of what may lie ahead a decade from now. Leading the way are a number of past Hall of Fame Classic champions that help comprise the list of drivers making a tour committment in ’07, however, not one is eligible for induction until the year 2011! Also receiving special recognition on Hall of Fame Sunday will be Leonard J. Sammons Jr. Outstanding Contributions to Auto Racing Award winners Ron Morin and the late Aaron Freshman, Gene DeWitt Outstanding Car Owner Award recipient Jeff Rudalavage and Mechanic of the Year Mike Burdick. Co-recipients of the sixth annual Gater Racing News Outstanding Woman in Racing Award are Annette Lutz and Helen Martin.
New Mr. DIRTcar Championship Format Underway: The overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRTcar Modified Champion in 2007 will be determined by adding actual points earned in the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series to those bonuses collected in DIRT Regional Racing Series for Big-Blocks. Along with earning valuable SDS points throughout the season, each driver must now attempt to qualify for a minimum of twelve (12) weekly DIRT-sanctioned events in the same class. Drivers will receive 1200 bonus points towards the overall Mr. DIRT Championship if they attempt to qualify for 12 regional races. That total will decrease by 100 points for each appearance less than 12 (i.e. if a driver attempts to qualify for only 10 DIRT Regional Racing Series events that driver receives 1000 bonus points, five starts = 500 points, etc.).
Twin 53s Mean Double Draws: In the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series opener at Hagerstown Speedway in March, Billy Decker had the dubious distinction of drawing three times during the course of the night --- upon arrival for his place in the time trial order, prior to heats to determine how many positions would be inverted, and finally before the feature to find his spot on the starting grid. Drivers have the opportunity to take the ‘luck of the draw’ one step further as the unique twin 53-lap (denoting Cayuga County ’s 53rd year of racing) feature format implemented at Cayuga County will require an additional draw. Immediately following the conclusion of the initial race, the top-12 finishers will re-draw for starting positions in the 53-lap finale to determine the front six rows, with the remainder of the 30-car field filled based on finishing order in the first feature.
Super Series Stars Shine: For the third straight year tour officials have once again signed up the best Big-Block Modified teams in the Northeast to compete in every Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series show. The current list of contracted drivers is 10 strong with a ‘race in’ for the final two spots in effect through mid-June which includes upcoming races at Cayuga County Fair Speedway (May 27), Orange County Fair Speedway (May 31), Fulton Speedway (June 9) and Susquehanna Speedway (June 14) in Pennsylvania. Already in the mix of contracted drivers are reigning Mr. DIRT points king and winningest Big-Block Modified driver Alan Johnson, ‘05 Mr. DIRT champion and current AAP SDS points leader Tim Fuller, all-time Advance Auto Parts Series race winner Brett Hearn, ‘04 Mr. DIRT titlist Gary Tomkins, third-year tour follower Jimmy Phelps, rising star Matt Sheppard, early season threat to his older brother’s throne Danny Johnson, Canandaigua Speedway record-setter Steve Paine, full-time tour follower Dale Planck and Keystone State open-wheel veteran Frank Cozze. Waiting in the wings to fill the final two positions are a dozen of the drivers that qualified for the Advance Auto Parts SDS events already run at Hagerstown ( Md. ) Speedway and Virginia Motor Speedway including Justin Haers, Billy Decker, Brian Weaver, Vic Coffey, Kenny Stafford, Wallace Stacey, Rick Laubach and Russ Hefti along with Kevin Bates plus series newcomers David VanHorn and Billy Dunn. Each of the contracted drivers owns provisional starting positions in the 2007 Advance Auto Parts SDS and are guaranteed to take home no less than $500 in winnings every time out.
Shock Value To Series Fast Qualifiers In ‘07: For a second straight year Integra Shocks will play an active role in point fund sponsorship of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series during the upcoming race season. The fast driver during 2007 Advance Auto Parts SDS qualifying will once again earn the 'Integra Shocks Fast Time Award' and the driver winning the most Integra Shocks Fast Time awards during the season will collect a bonus set of four Integra Shocks ($1,000 value) at the DIRTcar Racing NorthEast Banquet in November. The Advance Auto Parts Series has recognized fast time trialers since 1983, with 1999 marking the first season the awards program included every tour event scheduled during the year. All-time Advance Auto Parts SDS race winner Brett Hearn is also a leader when it comes to speed, earning a series-best total of 34 Integra Shocks Fast Time awards during the past 20 years.
Drivers will continue to draw for their order in the 'Integra Shocks Time Trials’ at all Advance Auto Parts SDS events, however, this season the fast timer will select a second pill to determine how many cars (3, 4, 5 or 6) will be inverted to start each preliminary heat race. The 'Integra Shocks Fast Time Award' winner will collect $100 and five (5) bonus points and the top-three heat race finishers will earn additional bonus points as follows: 1st-5 pts, 2nd-3 pts, 3rd-1 pt. With the new inversion format in place, a driver can now earn a maximum of 10 more points being the fast timer as well as a heat race winner.
2006 Hall Of Classic Review: Danny Johnson became the first three-time winner of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series Bill McNabb Hall of Fame Classic 100 on Sunday night at Cayuga County Fair Speedway, holding off a late race rally by Gary Tomkins to garner the first tour triumph for his former JIR Motorsports team. Johnson’s initial Advance Auto Parts SDS victory of the season was the seventh of his career at the Weedsport oval and netted him the $6,000 top prize and valuable points towards the overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT Championship. Outside pole-sitter Vic Coffey out-dragged front row partner Frank Cozze to open the century grind with Integra Shocks Fast Timer Steve Paine following through the hole. Johnson began eighth on the starting grid and waited for the field to spread out before cracking the top-five with 20 laps in the books. With the field jockeying for position in three-wide battles around the speedway, defending HoF Classic champion Tim Fuller ducked under Coffey on a lap 25 restart and Johnson mirrored the move the following circuit. The ‘Doctor’ shadowed Fuller for the next half-dozen circuits before again finding the needed traction low out of turn four, this time to forge the final lead change on lap 40. Tomkins cut into Johnson’s once seemingly insurmountable advantage the second half of the race yet traffic kept him at bay when it counted most, with three car-lengths separating the front-runners as the checkered flag waved. Fuller, Coffey and Pat Ward followed in order with Paine, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker, Tom Sears Jr. and Dale Planck filling out the top-10.
Early Season Winners: Heading into the big holiday weekend, 14 tracks have hosted DIRTcar-sanctioned Big-Block Modified races with 28 drivers scoring victories in the 46 features run. SDS favorite Danny Johnson (6 wins) tops the list of nine drivers posting more than one victory, with Pennsylvania upstart Jeremiah Shingledecker capturing four checkered flags. The lead duo is joined by Brett Hearn, Billy Decker and Brian Swartzlander each with three while Tim Fuller, Steve Paine, Jimmy Phelps and Vic Coffey are the only others to repeat. Tour regulars Frank Cozze, Dale Planck, Matt Sheppard, Justin Haers and Brian Weaver own one win apiece. Cayuga County has hosted four Modified main events in ‘07 with Johnson claiming three and track points leader Phelps taking the other. Paine is closest to Phelps in the CCFS standings followed by Danny Johnson, Butch Tittle and Vince Vitale with Haers (7th) and Weaver (15th) listed among the top runners.
Super Series Stats: Since the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series debut in 1980, 65 drivers have reached victory lane in 563 races with Virginia Motor Speedway recently becoming the 44th track to stage a championship event. Along with Brett Hearn's DIRT-best 491 (328 big-block/163 small-block) Modified wins registered at more than 30 tracks throughout the Northeast, the 'Jet' has flown to the top on the all-time Advance Auto Parts (91) Super DIRTcar Series win chart, with a division-best 62 extra-distance triumphs scored in Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Series competition.

Series Winners Automatic Syracuse SDW Starters: Guaranteed starting berths in the Eckerd 200 are once again up for grabs and in 2007 more drivers than ever before will be able to earn preferred starter status throughout the season for the richest DIRT Big-Block Modified event in the world. Winners of the 25 scheduled Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series races and those among the top-12 in overall Hoosier Tire-Sunoco Race Fuels Mr. DIRT Modified Championship points heading into Super DIRT Week comprise the core group of drivers receiving guaranteed starting positions in the Eckerd 200. Preferred starters are the next eligible drivers finishing behind an Advance Auto Parts SDS race winner that is already locked into the Eckerd 200 starting grid, as well as all three DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Regional point champions and every licensed Big-Block Modified track champion crowned this year.
In order to take advantage of their guaranteed starting positions in the Eckerd 200, Advance Auto Parts SDS race winners and top-12 Mr. DIRT point-getters must run time trials. Any guaranteed driver that fails to qualify through time trials or a Triple 20 will be added to the Eckerd field in order of heat race results. Those drivers holding preferred status are afforded up front starting positions in the Dig Safely New York last-chance qualifier on Sunday, Oct. 7 if unable to qualify while running under the clocks or in heat race competition.
The balance of the Eckerd 200 line-up is filled in from the Dig Safely New York Shootout with the 45th starting spot going to the best overall finisher in Cayuga County Fair Speedway’s ‘Win & You’re In’ Twin 25s on Sat., Oct. 6. Carrying on with a long-standing tradition, the Petrocci Memorial feature winner at Rolling Wheels Raceway on Sept. 3 automatically secures seventh-place on the 44-car starting grid and for the first time in Super DIRT Week history, the winner of the Coors National 200 at Lebanon Valley Speedway (Sept. 8) will start outside the fourth row.
Triple Crown Christened: The customary pre-race re-draw among top heat race qualifiers will continue to be in effect throughout the summer, with ‘Triple Crown’ events at Lebanon Valley Speedway, New York State Fairgrounds and Orange County Fair Speedway the only Advance Auto Parts Series stops awarding fast timers with pole-position starts. Heat points will not be awarded at these shows.
Continuing to rank among the most prestigious races in the country, the Eckerd 200 at the N.Y.S. Fairgrounds in Syracuse on Oct. 7, Eastern States 200 at Orange County on Oct. 21, and Coors National 200 at Lebanon Valley on Sept. 8 are the only 200-lap races on the annual tour and in 2007 these three signature events on the Advance Auto Parts SDS formulate the first ‘Triple Crown’ in DIRTcar Racing for Big-Block Modifieds. In addition, the Eckerd 200 winner automatically earns seventh-place on the Eastern States 200 starting grid and the winner of the Coors National 200 will start outside the fourth row in the Middletown finale.
This unique ‘Triple Crown’ features the $50,000-to-win Eckerd 200 in the Salt City , $20,000-to-win Eastern States 200 in Middletown (NY) and $10,000-to-win Coors National 200 at the West Lebanon (NY) oval. These are the only Advance Auto Parts Series stops where the fast timers start on the pole and the top-six are locked into front three row starting positions while heats will be aligned in heads-up fashion. A special points system has been implemented for these three races with each winner receiving 150 Series points and 50 points awarded to start.
