Pure stock and sprint features from May 19 to be raced first, veterans admitted free
HARTFORD, Ohio; May 22, 2007 - The fifth night of FANtastic Five racing scheduled for Saturday night at Sharon Speedway's 3/8-mile dirt oval will feature a pair of bonus features after rain postponed action on May 19. In addition to the extra racing, Sharon Speedway will recognize the current and former members of the military on "Hero's Night."
As part of "Hero's Night", all current members and veterans of the military will be admitted free of charge on Saturday.
On the track, drivers from the Tom's Sewer and Drain Service Pure Stock Division and Warren Harley-Davidson Sprint Car Division will pull double duty on Saturday evening. Because of rain on May 19, the pure stocks will make up their feature right off the bat at 6 p.m. with the sprint car feature to directly follow. Jarod Larson and Dwayne Clay will lead the stocks to the green flag, while Tait Hilbert III and Kevin Schaeffer will pace the 410 sprints to the green in the makeup races. Following the two makeup features, the regularly scheduled program will commence.
Despite the rain, the Gibson-Governor Insurance modifieds were able to complete their 25-lap feature on May 19. Jim Rasey took the lead on the third lap and went on to win his first feature of the season. Alan Dellinger, who has two wins this season, leads the Coy Bros. Trucking E-mod Division into the weekend. Guy Griffin, who has also chalked up two wins this year, currently leads the Limited Sprint Division points.
Saturday evening will feature a sprint and limited sprint autograph session, and the Kids Crew will also meet. Tickets for Saturday evening's show will be available at a price of $11 for adults (16 and older), $5 for kids (12-15) and free for children 11 and younger. Pit passes are $22, and the pit gate opens at 3 p.m.
Saturday will also be a "Two for $2" night. Fans who bring two non-perishable food items for Second Harvest Food Bank this Saturday will receive $2 off the price of an adult general admission ticket. A representative will collect the food outside the gate from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. only. Everyone who donates two food items will receive a $2 coupon to present at the ticket window, bringing the price of an adult general admission ticket to just $9. All non-perishable food items are accepted, but canned meats, canned vegetables, tuna fish and peanut butter are needed most.
Gates open at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. Fans can call (330) 772-5481 or visit www.sharonspeedway.com for more information and directions.
The stars and cars of the World of Outlaw Sprint Car Series will invade Sharon Speedway's 3/8-mile oval on Friday, June 1 sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Youngstown and Quaker Steak and Lube. The likes of 20-time Outlaws champion "King" Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski and Donny Schatz will be back in town for their only visit to Sharon Speedway in 2007. Fans can also see Tony Stewart's World of Outlaw piloted by Paul McMahan battle Kasey Kahne's sprint, which is wheeled by Joey Saldana.
General admission tickets will cost $25 for adults and just $5 for kids (6-13). Reserved tickets for the World Outlaws are just $2 more. Pit passes are $32. For tickets call the track at (330) 772-1186 or log on to www.sharonspeedway.com.
