The night of action sponsored by the Addison Farm Supply.

(Woodhull, NY) After over a month of cold, rainy, damp weather, the Woodhull Raceway experienced its best night of action thus far in 2007 as over 125 cars and a packed house was on hand for the Annual George Williams Memorial Races named in memory of Woodhull’s founding father.

The Father/son duo of Larry and Brian Knowles found victory lane in their respective classes as dad, Larry won the Napa Super Stock 20 lap feature event in convincing style to pick-up yet another feature win and with that he heads into the Memorial Day BRP 360 Late Model Special with a ton of confidence. Knowles played the waiting game for the first half of the feature setting in the top five as the field began to sort out, After a mid-race caution, the multi time Woodhull Super Stock Track Champion put on a power move to pass both Jeremy Wonderling and Glen Whritenour to take over the top spot which he would never surrender. Knowles then led the remaining circuits and cruised to the win followed by Whritenour, Wonderling, Mick Seeley and Wayne Robertson. For Seeley it was his best run by far of 2007 having suffered thru numerous mechanical problems. Six thru ten were Kenny Peoples Sr., invader, Dean Layfield, Scott Brown, last weeks feature winner, Jessica Pierce and Greg Young. Heat wins went to Knowles and Robertson. As part of their nightly sponsorship the Addison Farm Supply put up some serious bucks for a NAPA Super Stock Dash for Cash featuring the quick six qualifiers and it was Glen Whritenour taking home the $100 winners check for winning the six lap affair.

Like his father before him, son Brian Knowles put a good old fashioned butt whipping on the Morgan’s Auto Repair Street Stock field as he jumped into the early lead and cruised to the win, his first of 2007. Addison high school student, Zach Sutton was able to stay within striking distance throughout the 20 lap event, but never seriously challenged Knowles. Lance Baker came across the line for third chased there by Jeff Smith and Josh Nobriga. Rod Mullen led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Butch Dibble, Tony Foth, Curt Stebbins and Cliff Moss.

Heat wins went to Cliff Moss and Mike Williams

The S&W Awards Crate Sportsman opened the night of feature action and it was a familiar face back in victory lane as Wellsville veteran, Junior Green set the early pace and was able to keep all challengers at bay. Bill Brewer made a late race charge and was able to show a wheel to the high flying Green, but as the checkered flag waved ending the 20 lap feature it was Junior Green winning by just half a car length over Brewer with Dave Yehl nailing down the third spot followed by Nate Delong, Joe Dgien, his good buddy, Casey Pavlick, Larry Keegan, Bill VanEtten, Dave Youse and Bill Shea.

Heat wins went to Green and Bill Shea

With his win in the Crate Sportsman feature, Junior Green was allowed to tag onto the tail of the L.J. Kennedy Trucking 358 Modified feature and as brothers, Stacy and Mike Jackson led the twenty-six car train to the opening green of their scheduled 40 lap grind. Billy VanPelt has suffered through perhaps one of his most disappointing seasons in recent memory as numerous mechanical problems and on track accidents have put him well behind the 8 ball early in the season. However, the veteran Harrison Valley, Pa. speedster was not going to be denied the George Williams Memorial Trophy as he moved to the front quickly from his third row starting position and after an engine failure by then race leader, Ray Bliss Jr., he took control of the top spot and was never really challenged in an event that drew only a few quick yellow flags. Current high point man, Curt VanPelt was able to get close but never close enough to challenge as the VanPelt brothers both hugged the bottom of the race way and for the umpteenth time finished one two in another dominating Ted White Racing performance. Third place finisher, Ron Cartwright Jr. may have had the fastest car the last dozen laps as he gunned down the VanPelt’s and tried numerous times to put on the pass, however the outside groove just wasn’t providing enough bite for Cartwright and he settled for a well deserving third place finish. Mike Jackson held on for his best finish of the year in the Herb Wright Racing back-up machine to claim fourth, but the real story of the night was Rocket Roger Williams who had to take a top five point provisional just to make the show and with starting in twenty-fifth spot he methodically worked his way through a tough field to round out the top five. Six thru ten were Kevin Chilson, Dale Welty, Stacy Jackson, Frank Dunning and Greg Galligan. Heat wins went to Curt VanPelt, Billy VanPelt and Ray Bliss Jr.

The Signs Plus of Kanona Mini Stocks were next on the track for their 20 lap feature with earlier evening heats going to Brian Grant Sr., Art Goodier and Ted Morseman Jr. By the luck of the re-draw Art Goodier was able to start right on the front row and looked to have a pretty easy night of it, however young gun, Ted Morseman Jr. had other things to say about that as he literally pushed Goodier the entire second half of the feature event. As the top two pulled away from the rest of the field all eyes were on the lead duo as Morseman tried every trick in the books t nail down his first ever feature win, but as the double checkered flags waived it was Goodier standing in victory lane with a disappointed Morseman having to wait another week. Third place went to Brian Butler in another strong performance as he was followed by Mike Smith and Brian Grant Sr. Rich Sharpsteen II led the charge of the next group of five across the line followed by Adam Austin, Chris Woodard, Dennis Erdmann and Jason Ketrow. While Goodier and Morseman were slugging it out for the lead, Sharpsteen II and Grant were mowing down the field from the tail and with only a couple of quick yellow flags to slow the event, the duo put on quite a show for the fans.

Last but certainly now least the LaBarron Brothers Repair and Parts Front Wheel Drive Division was on the track for their 20 lap feature event and with a full twenty-four car starting field it was tough to predict who would sit in victory lane. Opening night winner, Ron Daily Jr. has been a picture of consistency all season long and was able to get to the point in a hurry and never looked back, but his win didn’t come easy as second place finisher, Jamie Freeman gave Daily fits throughout the entire race, but came up just a little short. Ron Hill was third, Aaron Bartos fourth and Mark Guinnup fifth. Six thru tenth were Kevin Patton, Scott Cummings, Brian Grant Jr., Sterling Kepner and Mr. Moore. Heat wins went to Daily, Freeman and Patton.

In victory lane Daily echoed the words of last weeks feature winner, Kevin Patton in that with all the equal equipment in the class it is making it increasingly difficult to pass and win and that there will several new faces in victory lane as the year goes on.

Next weeks at the Woodhull Raceway will be a Regular Big 6 event sponsored by the LaBarorn Brothers Repair and Parts of Woodhull, NY. Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 6:30. For more information go to the web at www.woodhullraceway.com.
