Weedsport, NY – May 27, 2007 – By Tom Skibinski, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR Director
With nearly 40 Big-Block Modifieds signed in and the grandstands continuing to fill, a second blast of rain mixed with pounding thunder and lightning flashes forced DIRTcar officials to cancel round three of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series at Cayuga County Fair Speedway on Sunday. A make-up date is pending at this time.
Just as the driver’s meeting concluded a sudden downpour sent the teams scurrying for cover after 5:30 p.m., yet within minutes the clock was again ticking until the time the first cars would turn trackside for the initial set of hot laps. But before a single wheel could be turned, the skies opened up once more at 6 o’clock to put an early end to Hall of Fame Sunday at The Port.
“We’re currently reviewing the remainder of Cayuga County ’s 2007 schedule and discussing the options available,” said DIRTcar Racing NorthEast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed. “We had a great field of cars and the track was in tip-top shape for two big 53-lap Modified features.”
Next Sunday, June 3, Cayuga County Fair Speedway hosts a complete card of Big-Block Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, Street Stocks and BattleKarz plus a special New York Modified Midget appearance. K&S Car Wash presents $20 CAR-LOAD NITE with a BEER BELLY & UGLY TRUCK CONTEST highlighting the 7 o’clock event. Pit gates unlock at 4:00 p.m. and the main grandstands open at 5 o’clock.
The DIRTcar Advance Auto Parts Modified Series is brought to fans across the Northeast by several sponsors and partners, including series sponsors Advance Auto Parts, Hoosier Racing Tire and Sunoco Race Fuels. Promotional partners include AMB i.t., F.X. Caprara Car Companies and the University of Northwestern Ohio and the contingency sponsors are Bert Transmission, Bicknell Racing Products, Bilstein Shocks, Brodix Cylinder Heads, Integra Shocks, MSD Ignitions, Miller Electric Manufacturing Company and Wrisco Industries.
