Elbridge, NY – May 28, 2007 – By Gary M. Spaid, Rolling Wheels Raceway Park PR

Memorial Day was certainly one to remember for Chris Hile as the Syracuse, NY driver made his first trip to victory lane at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on Monday, edging Jipp Ortiz by just .02-second at the line in the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified finale. Hile opened the month by scoring his first win of the year in the Fulton Speedway lid-lifter on May 5 before bringing it to a close in more dramatic fashion on May 28 at the ‘Fast Track.’

“It’s really great to get this second win of the year at Rolling Wheels,” Hile stated. “We’ve got a great car and this is certainly a great start to our season. Our new motor program is really paying off as the car was able to make up a lot of time in the corners which is the key to getting around here.”

This race will not only count for track points but also for regional points in all three DIRTcar Sportsman regions; North, Central and West.

The 20-lap feature started off with Jipp Ortiz taking the lead from the Salt City duo of brothers Rob and Chris Hile. But as the first lap was being completed the yellow flew for the number 10v of Josh VanBrocklin who had spun in the third turn.

On the restart Ortiz was able to hold off Chris Hile for just one circuit before another yellow flag flew. Chris Raabe slowed on the back stretch with a flat left rear tire on lap three to require a second caution period. Raabe would pit and later return to the race two laps down to the field.

Back under green flag conditions, Chris Hile moved by Ortiz to take his first lead. Once out front he was able to stretch his advantage to nearly three seconds before Ortiz found a faster lane and started to reel him in during the closing laps.

Shawn Donath was also on the move after starting 21st on grid, working his way through the 27-car field and into sixth-place with still six laps remaining. He was able to pass Eric Giguere for fifth a lap later, but could advance no further before the checkered flag dropped.

Up front the win went to Hile after Ortiz made a bonsai move down the front stretch on the final lap. The Ortiz machine bounced off the wall in a shower of sparks losing out to Hile by less than a half car-length. Paul Guererri finished third followed by Chris Higgns and Donath.

The next DIRTcar race at Rolling Wheels is scheduled for 7 p.m., July 3. On tap will be the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series featuring twin 50-lap features. Also on the race card will be the ASCA Patriot Sprint cars, Mid-State Vintage Cars and Mod Lites. Drag racing starts at the Wheels on Friday, June 22, with Street Drags, Neon Glow Contest and a Burnout Contest. Gates open at 7:30 p.m.
