Jackie Boggs put his home town Grayson, KY in victory lane for the second time in as many nights with his $5,000 triumph at the Coleman Family’s Portsmouth Raceway Park.
2002 MACS Champion Jack Pencil and Jeremy Miller brought the eager 24-car field to the green with Boggs slotted in third. At the drop of the green, Boggs darted to the inside of the lead pair grabbing the top spot coming out of turn two. As Boggs swept into turn three, Pencil and Miller continued to run side-by-side for the second position completing lap one.
Boggs was setting a blistering pace until the first caution on lap four flew for Steve Casebolt as he slowed in turn two. When racing resumed Boggs quickly pulled away from the field while Rod Conley battled with Miller for the second position. Boggs continued to hold a commanding lead until the field was slowed once again this time on the 13th lap for 2005 MACS Champion Mike Balzano. Balzano pitted and was able to return to action.
On the restart, Boggs continued to lead the 50-lap main event as ninth starting R.J. Conley and 2006 MACS Champion Jason Covert finessed their way into the top five. After two more caution periods, Boggs was still in command over Rod and R.J. Conley, Jason covert, and Jack Pencil as they all fought fiercely for position.
The fifth and final caution waved on lap 28 for local favorite Ben Adkins when he came rolling to a stop with a flat tire. When the field returned to green, Boggs was still at the point with the Conley brothers in tow followed by Covert and Pencil. Boggs entered lapped traffic for the first time with five laps remaining permitting Rod too quickly gain ground.
Conley vaulted to within four car lengths of the race leader while R.J. had his hands full with Covert for third. R.J. and Covert battled door handle to door handle for the final four circuits. Boggs took the win over Rod Conley as Covert sliced his way past R.J. at the line claiming third as Pencil rounded out the top five. The next tier of five included 2004 MACS Champion Robbie Blair, 2006 World of Outlaws ROY Eddie Carrier Jr., Josh McGuire, Mike Marlar, from 19th; and Jim Bernheisel from 14th.
