ASCS Sprints on Dirt at I-96 Speedway on Friday

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (May 29, 2007) – Following a Canadian washout, the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz return to action this Friday night at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, MI.

Friday's card marks the first of two stops for the series atop the high-banked, ½-mile I-96 Speedway dirt oval.

And there's a good chance one driver will escape the event with sole possession of the series championship points lead, as the Indiana duo of Brett Mann and two-time series champion Tim Norman are currently knotted atop the point charts. Norman picked up a series win at I-96 Speedway last year.

Twenty-four points behind the lead duo is Ohio's Mike Brecht, with Joe Bares and Bill Johnson rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Sprints on Dirt points includes J.R. Stewart (Bellefontaine, OH), Ben Rutan (Jerome, MI), rookie contender Ryan Ruhl (Angola, IN), Gary Fast (Kalkaska, MI) and Kirk Cheney (Hastings, MI).

Friday's racing action is set to fire off at 8:00 p.m.

I-96 Speedway is located in Lake Odessa, MI, off I-96 Exit 64, then 0.5 miles south, then 0.7 miles west. For more information, contact the track at 616-642-0555.

The 28th year of action for the ASCS Sprints on Dirt consists of 20 championship events at ten different tracks throughout Michigan as well as Ontario.

The 2007 season marks the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series. With a dozen different Regions in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, ASCS will sanction approximately 240 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.

Additional information regarding the American Sprint Car Series is available at www.ascsracing.com.
