The Campbellford Chrysler Car Load night started June with a splash as Chris Rice of Picton drove into the creek at Brighton Speedway on June 2, 2007. His #06 Mister Signz Pure Stock went high on turn two and kept going until it rested in the water, just missing the track bridge, during qualifying action on the 1/3 mile clay oval. Following a tow out and a quick pit stop he managed to make it back to the track and compete in the feature race that was won by Phil Potts, #49 of Brighton. Following Post Race inspection track staff deemed the finish “Unofficial” as compliance to the rules was being verified. At press time the results were official, and Potts, who also won his qualifier, has been awarded the Campbellford Chrsysler Driver of the Week.
Past Driver of the Week Robbie Wilson, of Belleville, in the #09 Bill’s Johns Comp 4 took another double win, and was tested in the feature by the #04 of Ashley Fowler from Brighton who is certain to take a checker or two this season. Victory Lane was also visited by 2007 first timer Jason McCrory of Trenton in his #49 Bainer’s Radiator Canadian Modified. This past Comp 4 Division Champion took the first 40 lap win in the RONA, Trenton Triple Crown Series.
Making his first stop in three years of racing, for a feature checker was Brian Cross, #08 of Picton in the Brighton Automotive Pro Stock Division. Especially sweet for this win was the increased purse as the first race in the Eastern Stock Car Challenge, with Street Stock visitors from other tracks competing in Brighto, ran its 35 lap length with Cross taking the win.
The next race event is the return of the Southern Ontario (SOS) Sprints presented by Dekeyser Excavating. Green flag flies at 7:00pm on Saturday June 9th. For more information, visit www.brightonspeedway.com.
