Edelweiss Speedway cancels his feature races because of a thunderstorm
With the hot and humid weather that our region is currently having, it is normal to have some thunderstorms and rain. Because of some precipitations falling on the speedway for about 30 minutes, the night of racing started late.
Even with this bad weather over the speedway, the officials were able to get all the heats and the 4 cylinders feature in.
The feature race of 12 laps in the 4 cylinders started 8 cars. Marco Raymond took the lead on the initial green but Gabriel Mercier grabbed it from him in turns 3 and 4 on lap 2. Mercier was only able to keep the lead for one lap as Danny Matte took it from him in the backstretch. Matte never looked back after that to win his second feature of the season. Yannick Raymond finished second, followed by Martin Lagacé, Mercier and Marco Raymond who finished respectively third, fourth and fifth. Mercier won the only heat race.
The official decided to start the 30 laps feature even though light rain was falling on the speedway. Pole-sitter, Éric Gauvreau took the lead for the first 8 laps when a caution flew on the field of 13 cars for Brian McDonald. With rain falling harder, and lightning appearing in the skies, it was all over for the night.
Next week, the modifieds will have a 22 laps feature and the Pro-Stock and Semi-Pro will have the chance to get their race in.
Including those features, a complete race program of next week which includes a demolition derby at the end of the night will also be on the schedule. Do not miss a jam packed night presented by Les Toitures Marcel Raymond.
