Tony Anderson Wins the Steve Brown Memorial

(Lima, OH) Tony Anderson and the Brown family have grown very close over the years. As a matter of fact, Anderson credits Darrell and Ora Brown for him being in the winner's circle Friday night. It was Darrell and Ora who encouraged Tony to stay in stock car racing after a career-threatening injury. Darrell, an extremely accomplished driver in his own right, considers Tony to be a true champion and Anderson became the first three-time winner of the Steve Brown Memorial for the Bud Thunderstocks after holding off the challenges of Earnie Woodard while leading all 18 laps.

Anderson's win was celebrated with a lot of hugs and choked-back tears. Darrell Brown commented, "I want to thank Limaland for always making us feel like family. They are so good to us and we appreciate having the opportunity to celebrate the memories of our son each year."

The Elwer Fence Sprints took to the famed high-banks next and before one lap could be completed; Dennis Yoakam flipped in turn four and brought out the red flag. Yoakam, who has been having a feast or famine year, suffered his third flip of the year. A complete restart followed and Mike Brecht, dove to the bottom and waved goodbye to the rest of the field. His closest competitor was Mr. Consistency, Mike Dussel. But Dussel could only get close to Brecht during the two caution flag periods. Brecht commented, "The way the track has been this year, I knew we were going to have to be fast on the low-side. My crew did an excellent job setting up my car."

It took Todd Sherman just four laps to charge from his fifth place starting spot to the lead during the Professional Computer Company Modified feature. Darryl Banks and Casey Luedeke found themselves staring at the rear end of a quickly disappearing Sherman Enterprises race car. After Luedeke's spin on lap eight, Terry Hull was holding down second place but he had nothing for Sherman. Ultimately, Darryl Banks would fight his way back around Hull and finished second to a dominating performance by Todd Sherman. Sherman said, "My car has been fast the last couple of weeks. I just needed the right tire compound!"

Your next chance to be part of the celebration of 72 years of racing action is next week when Limaland Motorsports Park presents Meet the Drivers Night. The Professional Computer Company Modified, Bud Thunderstock and Elwer Fence Sprint drivers will be signing autographs for the fans starting at 7:00 p.m. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing on America's premier quarter-mile begins at 7:30 p.m.
