Heavy rains force second straight cancellation at Independence Motor Speedway
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 2) - For the second week in a row, the racing program at Independence Motor Speedway has fallen to rain. Light sprinkles were in the area around the 5 p.m. hour before the deluge ensued around 5:30. The heavy rains added to three inches of precipitation that already fell in the area earlier in the week.
The next event scheduled for the speedway is Wednesday, June 6, as the Climate Seal Insulation Indee Open Series takes to the track for the third series event of the season. Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps scheduled for 6:30 and racing to begin at 7. Late models, modifieds and B modifieds will be taking part in that event.
The next weekly program is scheduled for next Saturday, June 9, as I.M.C.A. late models, modifieds, stock cars and hobby stocks will compete, along with unsanctioned B modifieds. Gates will open at 4 p.m. with hot laps slated for 6 and racing to begin at 6:30. BRITE 95.3 Radio will be sponsoring the evening's program.
Rain checks for the grandstands from the June 2 event will be honored at either of the next two weekly shows. They may also be used for the grandstands only for the June 6 Indee Open. Fans will be required to pay the admission difference if using their grandstand rain check for the June 6 special.
Pit pass wristbands from the June 2 rainout will serve as rain checks. They will be honored at weekly programs only and must be used at one of the next two weekly racing programs.
