Norman Leads ASCS Sprints on Dirt into Weekend Double

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 4, 2007) – Fresh off his first feature win of the season, two-time series champion Tim Norman of Warsaw, IN, leads the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz into this weekend's pair of events in Michigan.

On Friday night, the series takes to Cherry Speedway in Fife Lake before moving on to Merritt Speedway on Saturday night.

Norman, the series champion in 1985 and then again in 2005, moved atop the series 2007 championship point charts following his 27th career series win this past weekend.

Norman's lead is a slim one though, with Brett Mann of Goshen, IN, just eight points back in second. Bill Johnson of Linden, MI, enters the weekend ranked third, with Joe Bares of Traverse City, MI, and Ben Rutan of Jerome, MI, rounding out the current top five.

The balance of the current top ten includes J.R. Stewart (Bellefontaine, OH), Gary Fast (Kalkaska, MI), ASCS Sprints on Dirt rookie contender Ryan Ruhl (Angola, IN), Ryan Grubaugh (St. Johns, MI) and Kirk Cheney (Hastings, MI).

Friday's card at Cherry Speedway marks the fifth annual visit to the semi-banked, 3/8-mile clay oval for the ASCS Sprints on Dirt, with past winners including Gregg Dalman (2003), Dustin Daggett (2004 and 2005) and Kevin Atkins (2006).

Already a winner of two ASCS Sprints on Dirt features this year, two-time series champion Dustin Daggett has collected six of his 39 career series wins at Merritt Speedway, including one win last year. Ryan Grubaugh scored a pair of wins at Merritt last year, with Bill Johnson's single career win coming at Merritt in 2005.

Friday's action at Cherry Speedway fires off at 7:15 p.m., with Saturday's card at Merritt Speedway going green at 7:30 p.m.
