Newberrytown, PA (June 5, 2007) – Stock Car Saturday Night returns to the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night, June 9, with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Classic Cars and the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Vans. The Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout will return for round three of the six round series featuring Street Stocks drivers 21 years of age and younger. Eric Walker and Chad Smith are tied for the lead going into round three with 17 points. Dave Thompson, Jr. is currently in third with 8 points. The remainder of the Young Guns are Joey Hoffer (5), Calvin Herman (3), Jenn Scott (1) and Garrett Shover (1).
Stock Car Saturday night last weekend at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Cal Graves picking up the Late Model feature. 2006 SSP Street Stock Champion, Brian Hauenstein became the first repeat winner in the highly competitive division. Bob Bender Jr. from Manheim won his first SSP career Xtreme Stock feature as Daryl Sipe returned to victory lane in the York Haven Auto Sales Mini Van race. Kevin Armstrong on the XSC Rookie Rumble feature.
The pit gates will open 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 7:00 p.m. followed by last chance consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night will be Adults and Teens (13 & older) $12.00; Children (12 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 14 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 14 to 17.
There will be a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week’s events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during the season for great prizes. Last season, 10 winners were drawn from the repeat fans and each winner received $30 in SSP Gift Certificates for tickets or concessions. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road , then 1.3 miles south. SSP Pit Notes
- AAP Super DIRTcar Series Postponed - Both DIRTcar Racing NorthEast and Susquehanna Speedway Park officials reached a mutual agreement today to postpone the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event for Big-Block Modifieds scheduled on June 14 at the Newberrytown, PA oval. Speedway owners Todd and Rhonda Fisher recently reorganized the remainder of the 2007 racing events schedule at Susquehanna and a new date for the Advance Auto Parts SDS show is pending at this time.
“On the heels of Susquehanna’s schedule being restructured recently, we’ve decided to put the event on hold until we can find a better suited date,” said DIRTcar Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning Cory Reed. “We’re looking forward to working with Todd as he has supported DIRT 100% since day one and wants the Big-Blocks back at his track in the very near future.” Further details regarding Advance Auto Parts Super DIRTcar Series event will be released in the coming weeks.
The events on Thursday, June 14 will continue as scheduled with the ARDC Midgets, Legends Cars and the Great American School Bus Race. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with racing starting at 7:00 p.m.
- Postponed Event from May 27 - The rain-postponed Memorial Day Spectacular from Sunday night, May 27 has been rescheduled for Sunday, August 19. The racing classes include the Central PA 358 Sprint Cars, ARDC Midgets and Legends Cars. The 20-lap 358 Sprint Car feature event will be presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic from Finksburg , Maryland paying $1,200 to the winner. Hoosier Tires will be the only tire permitted on all four corners of the car. Mufflers are not required for the 358 Sprint Cars only. Both pit and grandstand rainchecks may be used from May 27 at any race during the next three weeks (until Saturday, June 16) or for the race on Sunday, August 19. Since no cars were able to qualify before the rains hit the speedway, new entries for the race on August 19 will be permitted.
- Xtreme Stock Car Points Fund Announced – SSP in pleased to announce a season-ending points fund for the Xtreme Stock Car division paying $300.00 to the champion. The top 10 positions will receive points fund monies. The point fund is sponsored jointly by Superior Homes ( Lancaster , PA ), Erb’s Custom Performance ( Wellsville , PA ) and The Madison Recovery Homes ( York , PA ). These companies will also sponsor the 50-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature during the Miller’s Racing Parts Fall Classic race on October 19 and 20 paying $1,000.00 to the winner.
- New Information for “The Outback” Track at SSP – The Outback Track at SSP is currently under construction for Quarter Midgets, karts and more. The days of operation will be Saturday during the daytime hours. As work continues, the first open practice day will not take place this week on June 2. The first open practice date has been pushed back to at least Saturday, June 16. Competitive racing is set to begin just after the mid-summer vacation break on July 21 and/or July 22. The classes/types of cars or karts will be developed during the open practice sessions. Details will continue to be released as they become finalized.
