Tri-State Outlook
by Duane Hancock
Every year the World Of Outlaws pay a visit to
Eldora Speedway the first Saturday night in June. At
times the date seemed to struggle for cars and fans
but not anymore. The last few years a full field of
cars and a decent crowd was on hand. This year was no
different. 31 cars were pit side and a fair crowd was
present. Not to mention there was rain all over the
state and at Eldora, so all things considered a great
turn out. The rain delayed the start time of the show.
Plus, Greg Wilson's hauler tagged the inside wall
entering the pits. This took almost an hour to
clean-up and move. Once things started, the show was
pushed along. It was just after 9 PM when the heats
were started. A fast tacky Eldora with a huge cushion.
No it wasn't right up against the wall. Anyone in
their right mind thinking it would be right away has
never seen a rain storm hit Eldora. The track was in
excellent shape for all the mud that was there at
6:30-7 o'clock. 3 heats were ran. The heats off
without any incident at a quick pace. There was some
pretty decent racing too. Danny Lasoski, Daryn
Pittman, and Jason Solwold took the heat wins. The
Dude was hooked-up as he took the Dash win too. Jeremy
Campbell took the B Main. All races were ran without
an incident. As the officials rolled the show on, it
was time for the 30 lap A Main, right around 11 pm.
Excellent for a division show. Eldora, I think, has
received some unfair bad PR on recent message boards
about getting the sprint car A Main over at a decent
time. There is NO way you could complain about this
night. There was just about 2 hours from the time the
green flag fell for the 1st heat, until it fell for
the 1st A Main of the night. Danny Lasoski was fast
all night and looked to stay that way after starting
on the pole. Green, Lasoski takes the lead. Lap 2,
Solwold, who seems to run tough on big tracks, takes
the lead. Terry McCarl is fast but slows early with a
right rear packed full of mud. Soldwold is looking
good as the others battle to the front. Dean Jacobs is
strong and is looking for the lead. A great race
upfront, 2 and 3 car battles for position. Lap 14,
Brooke Tatnell stops. Paul McMahan is fast and moving
towards the leaders. The battle is on and it is a good
one. These 3 are at an all out war. Sliding around
lapped cars, cutting each others move off, just a good
clean battle. Lap 21. Brian Paulus slows for a
caution. Jacobs get a run on the restart but the WOO
regulars are tough. Lap 22, McMahan takes the lead.
Solwold and Jacobs doesn't roll over and play dead by
any means. Lap 23, Solwold leads. These 3 are going
for it. Lap 25, McMahan takes the point again, passing
Solwold on the high side. They battle until the bitter
end and it is all Paul McMahan. A popular victory and
a great race. Solwold, Jacobs, Pittman, and Jason
Meyers round out the top 5. An excellent race. All the
early year nay sayers can shut up now. Eldora is back.
If there wasn't such heavy rains, the cushion would
have been up on the wall. Yeah, the track isn't 100%
identical to what is was before the new dirt but, its
damn close. All I can say, if it keeps producing races
like this night, 3 car battles upfront and 5 lead
changes, it is just right! I brought along a friend
that has never been to Eldora or to a race in 6 years
and a person who has never seen a race EVER, they are
hooked. Both have asked me when and where they can go
racing at next.
305 driver, Chad Wilson is hanging up is helmet for
a while to go on the road with Jeremy Campbell's WOO
team...Brad Bowman has taken over the Lowe Family
Racing 66L car for a few months in the 305 ranks.
Regular driver, Ryan Lowe is taking some time off from
racing. 41 pre-entries has already been received for
Ohio Sprint Speedweek.
