Daggett Likes Cherry; Scores Third ASCS Sprints on Dirt Victory.


T.J. Buffenbarger, FIFE LAKE, Mich. (June 8, 2007) - Dustin Daggett won the Engine Pro ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz feature event at the Cherry Speedway on Friday night. Daggett ran down early leader Ben Rutan and held on through several restarts. The win was Dagget’s third victory this season and 40th career win with Sprints on Dirt.

“It was a pretty good race,” said Daggett in victory lane. “I was starting to doubt our setup at the beginning of the race. We had a pretty good run with Ben Rutan. Phil and Marty Mott helped me out this year, and I need to thank them.”

Daggett and Rutan started on the front row for the 25-lap feature event with Rutan getting the jump at the start. Rutan led the first nine circuits until Daggett took the lead in turns one and two during a restart. Rutan kept Daggett in his sights and during a late race restart was able to pull alongside Daggett, but could not make the pass.

While Daggett checked out Rutan, Gregg Dalman, Brett Mann, and Ryan Grubaugh raged battle for third on back. Grubaugh got the top side to work to pass Mann in turns one and two, but two corners slid off the track and lost several positions.

Daggett negotiated traffic around the tight 3/8-mile track to post the win. Rutan, Dalman, Mann, and Steve Irwin rounded out the top five.

Daggett, Rutan, and Dalman won heat race events.
