Clinton PA ’s Dave Wade grabbed his first Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Late Model feature Saturday at Pittsburgh ’s PA Motor Speedway. Brandon Burgoon grabbed the lead at the start of the 25 lap main and led the first 4 laps. Lynn Geisler and Jared Miley battled for second, with Geisler grabbing that spot. Geisler got around Burgoon on lap 5. Geisler looked as if he was going to win his first feature anywhere this season, but Wade had other ideas. In the early laps Wade ran in the fifth spot, but his car seemed to come in just before half way, and he methodically passed the next three cars to move into second. He went wheel to wheel with Geisler for a couple laps, then grabbed the lead coming down the front straight on lap 15 and pulled away for the win. Geisler had his best run of the season to finish second followed by Brandon Burgoon, Al Atallah, Lou Bradich, Mike Davis, Jared Miley, Ben Miley, Tom Beck and Dennis Neiderriter. Tom Beck grabbed his first dirt Late Model checker in the first Late Model heat, while Dave Wade ran away with the second heat.
Two Brougher’s Machine Shop Crate Late Model features were held, with Daryl Charlier Midway, PA picking up his third win in the rainout event, while Clinton, PA’s Jason Rider grabbed his second of the year. In the first main, Charlier led the entire race, but it wasn’t an easy win as he held off the challenges of rookie Steve Beatty early and Kyle Lukon later in the event. Lukon ended up second followed by the impressive Beatty, with Mark Moats Jr. having a solid run in fourth. Hard charger Russ Kolesar was fifth followed by Jason Rider, Pete Loria, Laura Lukon, Rocky Kugel, and Bill Westlake. In the second go, Rider grabbed the lead on the first lap with Kyle Lukon and Russ Kolesar chasing. Lukon make several runs at Rider during the 20 lap main, but had to settle for second for the fourth time this season. Kenny Scheltenbrand was third followed by Russ Kolesar, Laura Lukon (who made a great last lap pass for fifth), Leo Stadelman (who recovered from a heat race accident), Rocky Kugel, Scott Schempp, Mark Moats Jr., and Jeff Broniszewski. The heats went to Jeff Broniszewski, Pete Loria and Kyle Lukon.
The Miley Truck Rental E-Mods also had two features, with Austintown, OH’s Wayne Tessean grabbing his first of the year. And in the second main, J.E. Stalder Martins Ferry, OH took his first win at PPMS this year. In the first main from the rainout two weeks ago, Tessean grabbed the lead at the start and was never headed. The real story of the races was J.E. Stalder. Stalder was running second on the first lap, and looked poised to challenge Tessean only to spin out. He recovered and charged thru the field to second by lap 10, and again seemed to be poised to challenge Tessean again, but spun out for a second time. He was able to recover and at the end ended up fourth. Chuck Kennedy finished second followed by Kevin Miller, Stalder, J.J. Bametzrieder, Tom Martineck, Clayton Kennedy, Willy Briggs, Denny Nakutus, and Daryl Charlier. In the second main, Stalder made up for all his miscues in the first main, by methodically working his way up from his tenth place starting spot and grabbed the lead from early leader Mike Basich by the fourth lap. Stalder won by a straightway at the end of the event. The battle for second was unbelievable, as Mike Basich, Chris Basich, Wayne Tessean and Daryl Charlier went at it. At the end it was Stalder, Chris Basich, Charlier, Tessean, Mike Basich (who faded to fifth on the last lap). Kevin Miller was sixth, Tom Martineck in seventh, J.J. Bametzrieder in eighth followed by Shawn Domhoff and Chuck Kennedy. J.E Stalder won the heat.
In the Sunoco Race Fuels Pure Stocks, Jake Simmons, McKees Rocks PA grabbed his second win of the season, Adam Chytil grabbed the lead at the start, and was looking strong, but Simmons ran him down, and started to challenge for the lead by the halfway point. After a side by side duel Simmons took the lead for good on lap 11. Chytil ended up second followed by Joe Anthony, Hard Charger Bill Robertson, Nick Kocuba, Bob Schwartzmiller, Stacie White, A.J. Poljak, Mitch Wattelet and Dave Slade. Joe Anthony won the lone heat.
In the Old Allegheny Shoppe Amateur Stocks, Davy Lee Independence, PA grabbed his fourth win of the young season. Lee took the lead on lap two and never looked back. Bill Tennant was second with Eric Goldberg in third, Jarrod Weiland came home fourth with Brian Huchko in fifth. Rounding out the top field were Terry Kerr, Curt Bish and Derek Stefanick. Davy Lee also won the heat for the sweep.
The Imperial Heights Garage Young Guns had two features to run. Dormont, PA’s Dusty Curry grabbed the first one, holding off Rich Mason. Mike Reft was third followed by Tyler Fox, Devin Tomei, Todd Janus, and Tyler Atkinson. Atkinson was the victim of a hard flip, but was ok. In the second show, a “Hot Dog Race”, Todd Janus Coraopolis, PA grabbed his first win, followed by Devin Tomei, Mike Reft, Dusty Curry, Rich Mason Tyler Fox, and Alec Broniszewski in his first start.
