New Egypt, NJ (June 9, 2007) – Jimmy Horton of Neshanic Station, NJ
drove the Grosso trucking #R24 to his second victory of 2007 Saturday
night at New Egypt Speedway as he captured the 30-lap DIRTcar
Modified feature. Starting 16th on the grid, Horton sliced thru the
field in smooth fashion, taking the lead from race long leader Pat
Wall with 8 laps to go and went on to claim the $3000 top prize.
"We are starting to get more consistant now," said Horton in Victory
Lane, "Our hard work is finally paying off, I just want to thank the
crew for giving me a great car tonight."
At the start of the event Modified rookie Pat Wall charged up from
row two and grabbed the lead on lap 2. Wall wasted no time as he went
to work and opened up a half of a straightaway lead. Wall looked
strong as he survived several restarts, and each time opened up a
large lead. Meanwhile defending champ Jimmy Horton was busy working
his way toward the front. Horton used his vast experience in the
final third of the event as he chased down Wall. Horton proved to be
too much for the young driver, and raced around the outside of him
for the lead with 8 laps remaining. From there Horton cruised to his
second win of the season. Ryan Godown made a late race pass to grab
second, with Wall holding on for third. Tim Tanner Jr. came from 11th
starting spot to finish fourth with Keith Hoffman finishing fifth.
Ricky Elliott of Seaford, DE won his second feature of the season in
the 25 lap Super Late Model event. Elliott won the non-stop event in
a record time of 8:18. Kenny Pettyjohn chased Elliott across the
line, followed by David Pettyjohn, Rob Ormsbee and Al Cheney.
Mark Herman of Windsor, NJ won the first feature of his career in the
20-lap Sportsman feature. Herman, who was a rookie in 2005, not only
collected his first ever win but bettered his best ever finish by 13
positions. Mike Brannigan raced home second followed by Rocco Infante
in third, J.T. Trstensky was fourth and Mike Howardson fifth.
Billy Bauer of Flemington, NJ took his second feature win of the
season in the 20 lap Super Stock feature event. Bauer took the lead
just before halfway and held off a late race challenge from Tony
Bozowski for the win. Bozowski finished second, with Mick Search
third, Jason Buback fourth and Don Shipley fifth.
In the 20 lap SS Sprint event, Dale Gardner became a feature winner
for the first time in his career as he drove his #81 to a solid win.
Rick Cozze ran a solid second, followed by two-time winner Ken
Carberry, Kevin Nagy and Robert Liedl.
Next Saturday night, June 16th, it will be Dad’s Appreciation Night
sponsored by Cream Ridge Golf Club. DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds will
headline the evening, along with Sportsman, Super Stocks, Crate-1
Sportsman, Outlaw Stocks and the Lucas Ford SS Sprints. Gates open at
