Richwine, Morgan, Pensinger, Brown and Richcreek All Visit Victory Lane at SSP on Saturday Night
Newberrytown, PA (June 9, 2007) – Stock Car Saturday night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park found Scott Richwine picking up his second Late Model feature win of the season. Paul Morgan visited victory lane for the first time this season in the Street Stock division. Charlie Pensinger finally picked up an Xtreme Stock Car feature after a long drought. Butch Richcreek returned to victory lane in the Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van race. Kevin Armstrong won the XSC Rookie Rumble feature.
John Baker jumped out to the early lead from the pole position in the 20-lap Late Model feature event. Numerous cautions throughout the race slowed the pace, but the most serious came when Sterling Kinard slowed in the middle of heavy traffic coming out of turn four with a broken ball joint leaving no where for Gary Potts, Kyle Saylor and Sam Leonard to go. All drivers were uninjured. Scott Richwine was able to eventually make his way to the front and on the 15th circuit, he took the lead away from Baker. Richwine held on for the win over Gene Wrightstone and Jake Jones. Carl Billet finished fourth after starting 24th in the feature. Billet continues to hold onto the SSP point lead by 38 points over Richwine. Baker recorded his best finish of the season in fifth place. Carl Graves, Al Shawver, Justin Ehrhardt, Steve Billet and Charles Potts rounded out the top ten.
A caution filled 20-lap Street Stock event found Paul Morgan taking the lead from Steven Dove on lap 3. A caution for a spinning Jenn Scott in turn four on lap 7 regrouped the field. On the restart, Morgan continued to lead over Steven Dove. Another caution on lap 9 for a three car in turn four slowed the pace. Morgan was able to hold onto the lead through a few more cautions. At the end, Paul Morgan was victorious over his brother Craig Morgan. Brian Hauenstein finished third with Gary Johnston and Joey Hoffer rounding out the top five. Craig Morgan’s second place finish moved him into a tie for the season long points battle with Joe Whitely.
In the 5-lap Clean Technologies Young Guns Shootout, Joey Hoffer picked up the win with a last lap pass over second place finisher Jenn Scott. Calvin Herman finished third, followed by Garrett Shover, Dave Thompson, Jr. and Chad Smith. Chad Smith and Eric Walker continue to be tied for the lead in the six round series although Smith finished last in the race and Walker was absent from the speedway on Saturday night. Each of them have 17 points. Hoffer closed up the battle as he now has 15 points. Dave Thompson has 9 points in fourth, followed by Calvin Herman and Jenn Scott, each with 8 points and Garrett Shover with 4 points. Three more races remain in the six-race series.
For the second straight week, the 30-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature was exciting for the entire race from start to finish. On the start, Tim Hahn jumped out to the early lead from his fifth place starting position. Matt Wampler moved around Hahn on lap 3 for the lead. Wampler continued to lead until a caution on lap 11 slowed the field. Under caution, transmission problems eliminated Wampler from the race before it could be restarted. Thomas Johns assumed the lead and led the next two laps until Charlie Pensinger took the lead on lap 14. Side-by-side racing all over the track continued for the next 12 laps.
A wild five car battle for the lead ensued until a caution on lap 26 slowed the field for a four lap shoot out to the finish. On the double file restart, the leader Pensinger chose the outside front row and this put Goodwin on the inside. Pensinger continued to lead with Donnie Broderick moving into second but was unable to get by Pensinger for the win. Pensinger picked up his first win of the season, with Broderick following in second. Sam Rial ran a good, hard race for third. Goodwin settled for fourth and Larry Landis finished fifth. Kevin Armstrong won his third XSC Rookie Rumble race and now must compete in the regular Xtreme Stock Car feature for the remainder of the season.
Bill Brown, Sr. won again in the Classic Cars by overtaking Joe Snodgrass with two laps to go. Snodgrass finished second. Brian Diehl, Kurt Welsh and Jack Yingling rounded out the top five.
In the 10-lap Speedway Auto Sales Mini Van feature, Butch Richcreek picked up his second win of the season over current SSP point leader Brandon Ort. Daryl Sipe finished third with David Snelbaker and Tana Reisinger rounding out the top five.
