SIEGLE CLAIMS FIRST FEATURE WIN AT THE CREEK

By Bill Nelson

June 9th, 2007

Spring Valley Mn

Other than some strong winds blowing in Southern Minnesota this Saturday night was a perfect night for racing, a great crowd and an excellent car count was on hand for the Hardy’s Bar B Que and Strikers Corner night at the speedway. Dale Lambrecht also had his Peterbilt on hand that was re-done by the popular CMT – Trick my Truck show and had a large group of people near it all night long. On the track first time winners highlighted most of the nights racing action.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were up first for their 18 lap feature event. Scott Olson took over from the drop of the green flag while a three car battle for second took place. Ryan Goergen came out of the battle with second while Ernie Kramer sat in third. Fifteen to go and Scot Nelson was working his way forward as he raced with Kramer for third. Olson slowly built up a five car lead early as Nelson moved past Kramer and then under Goergen in the next corner to take over second. Nelson quickly caught up to Olson and with eight to go moved alongside for the race for the lead. Behind Nelson, Steve Eischens was quietly working his way forward running the extreme bottom of the speedway. A restart with five to go gave Nelson the lead, Eischens in second while Kramer raced with Tony Horsman and Fred Prudoehl for position. Prudoehl took over the spot. Nelson cruised home the rest of the way for his fourth feature win of the season, Eischens and Nelson took home heat wins.

The Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds pulled onto the track for their feature event with Bryan Hernandez taking the lead out of two from his third starting spot. Two laps down and a caution flew for a big wreck in turn two, cars involved Jerry Young, Dalton Yohnk, Troy Barth, Josh Angst and Andrew Wiste. Everyone was okay in the pileup but unfortunately I don’t think you can say the same thing about Wiste’s car as it looked like the rear of the car took a tremendous hit and will need some serious work before he is able to make it back out. On the restart Hernandez continued to lead with Chris Adams moving into second. Jimmie Arnold moved into third quickly on the restart followed closely by Bob Bunne and Albert Wytaske. Wytakse and Bunne ran side by side for the next lap while they were three wide for sixth behind them. With ten to go Hernandez and Adams had pulled out to a full straight lead over Arnold while Kenny Wytaske was working through the field. With six to go Arnold, K. Wytaske and Bunne were three wide for third with Wytaske taking over the spot. Hernandez took home the win with Adams pressuring him to the line with K. Wytaske rounding out the top three.

The U.S. Army WISSOTA Super Stocks had seen six different winners in six nights of racing action, could tonight be #7? Ryan Siegle and Brian Fetting both without wins at the speedway paced the field to the green flag. Siegle took the early lead with Jason Gabrielson working into second. Fetting and Adam Stockhausen were side by side for third as a caution flew with two down. On the restart Gabrielson pulled alongside of Siegle for the lead. The next lap saw Fetting make the bottom work as he shot under both of the leaders to take over the top spot. With fourteen to go Siegle started working back under Fetting and took the lead three laps later as Gabrielson and Stockhausen still raced for third. Gabrielson then moved to the top of the track and started to burn in a new line as he and Stockhausen raced beside Fetting for second. Another caution saw Gabrielson take over second with Cole Queensland now racing Stockhausen for third. Stockhausen kept the position and moved under Gabrielson with six to go for second leaving Queensland to race with Gabrielson. Queensland took over third with Chris Groth following through into fourth. At the finish it was Siegle with his first ever feature win after racing in the mod-4’s Midwest modifieds and now super stocks. IT did make the seventh winner in seven nights at the speedway.

Mike Prochnow was a rocket tonight in his Mars chassis machine jumping out to an early lead in the Valley Featherlite WISSOTA Late Model division. Prochnow was injured last weekend from a broken driveshaft but was not to be denied this week. Heat winner Tony Bloom(his first ever heat win in any class) started to his outside on the front row. Nate Wasmund quickly moved around Bloom into second as Bloom and Barry Underdahl now ran side by side for third. Seven laps completed and Keith Foss, Bloom and Neil Eckhart went three wide for fourth. Foss took the spot and two laps later moved up to race with Wasmund now in third after being passed by Underdahl. Foss took over the third spot while Prochnow was a half lap ahead of the third place car. Eight to go found lapped traffic for Prochnow allowing Underdahl and Foss to get onto the same straight as he was running however the night was Prochnow’s as he took home the win.

The EZ Fabricating USRA modifieds had the biggest car count with 32 modifieds in the pit area. Kelly Shryock took the early lead with Mark Noble, Mike Sorensen and Steve Wetzstein racing for second. Wetzstein took the second spot while Brad Waits moved up to the battle with Sorensen and Noble. Shryock started pulling away from the field with Wetzstein trying to maintain a close distance. With five to go Noble took over third with Waits now working on Sorensen. Two laps later Sorensen was again alongside of Noble, They touched with both cars getting sideway allowing Corey Dripps and Waits to move into third and fourth leaving the other two to continue their own race. With thirteen to go Shryock was working lapped traffic and while looking for his car I realized that Wetzstein was now on his bumper. For the next three laps the duo swapped spots in nearly every corner. With ten to go Wetzstein spun the car in turn two but stayed under full throttle and after completing the 360 maneuver took off in fourth spot with only Waits and Dripps getting past. A caution with nine to go, as the leader made contact with lapped traffic saw the leader pull pitside with a flat handing the lead to Waits. Waits was a rocket in the lead running tight up against the wall around the track. Dripps came home second and Noble made it around Wetzstein on a late restart for third.
