GOEDEN WINS IRA WINKER MEMORIAL AT WILMOT

6/9 Wilmot, WI Donny Goeden captured the annual Al & Marie Winker Memorial at the Wilmot Speedway Saturday. The year's running marked the first time Wilmot's annual sprint car classic ran under Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints sanction. Though Goeden led flag to flag, the large crowd that turned out for the event saw a great night of racing, as the well prepared track provided multi-groove action all night long. Goeden steered Bob Walldan's Jones powered no.11 Maxim to his series leading fourth victory of the season.

Veteran Joe Symoens grabbed the lead at the green, though Goeden would run the cushion to take the point coming out of the second turn. Goeden would hold a few car length lead throughout much of the race, however the action behind him was fierce as the fan's were treated to great racing throughout the field.

A few minor cautions would close the field though Goeden would maintain his three car length lead, though the race for runnerup honors was never dull. Symoens held the position for much of the race before Scotty Neitzel thundered by on the high side. John Haeni would slip under Symoens for third while Mike Reinke rode the cushion into fourth in three wide action. While Goeden would continue to hold a slim lead, the race for second was outstanding as Neitzel and Reinke ran high with Haeni running the low side, with all three running under a blanket.

A late race yellow would create a two lap dash to the finish, with the entire field still running on the lead lap. Goeden again would get a good start, with Reinke taking over second and putting in a great effort to reel in the leader though it was Goeden by a car length over Reinke, and Haeni, while Neitzel held off a fast coming Scott Uttech at the line for fourth. Defending IRA Champion Travis Whitney came home sixth, with Scott Young, Dave Moulis, Tommy Sexton, and Brian Kristan completing the top ten. Kurt Winker, the son of the late Al & Marie, came home eleventh.

Young outqualified the forty-two car field with heat wins going to Tim Vandevere, Uttech, Goeden, and Reinke. Young and Kim Mock captured the twin B-main events. Whitney holds the IRA point lead following the Wilmot round over Reinke, Meyer, Neitzel, and Haeni.
IRA heads to the Cedar Lake Speedway for the two-day Masters this coming weekend June 15-16.
