Spangler becomes 5th UMP Late Model winner of the season at Hartford.
Eric Spangler became the fifth different UMP Late Model feature winner in five racing events at the Hartford Speedway Park. The Lake City, Michigan driver made the long trip pay off as he wheeled his masterbilt race car to Lane Automotive victory lane. The defending track champion Alan Vochaska claimed the runner up spot, has he is still looking for his first feature win of the year. Paw Paw driver Zach Hanson rounded out the top three in the ten mile event. Jim Abbott turned in his best effort at the speedway to finish fourth. Mark Wagner drove is Ford powered Fusion to a solid fifth place finish.
Mark Anderson made is return to the big half mile a profitable one, scoring a feature win over a talented field of open wheel drivers. The Lowell based driver held of a five Indiana drivers to claim feature win number one. Kyle Cooper made his 2007 debut in a new Dirt Works race car finishing second. Frank Marshall slipped into third on the final lap to finish off another solid effort. Former track champ and two time feature winner Bub Patrick finished fourth. Kurt Allison made his first start ever at the track and was rewarded with a top five finish.
Factory Stock king pin Wayne Clauss scored his fourth main event win of the season. The Sister Lakes driver slipped past Dennis Gilbert with a few laps remaining. Gilbert claimed his best finish ever at Hartford and my have held of Clauss if not for choosing the softer compound Hoosier Tire which faded in the closing laps. Chad White continues to show signs of being a front running driver in the Factory Stock class with a solid third place effort. Randy Frank finished the 20 lap event fourth, with Eric Knight rounding out the top five. Dowagiac driver Jerry Griffith was involved in vicious crash on the front stretch during the main event. Jerry’s #51 was t-boned by Jon Huston in the passengers door and was transported for evaluation.
Action on the small track was lead by Indiana Mini Sprint driver Wayne Miller, has he claimed the 15 lap feature. Gary Miller made it a one-two finish for the Miller family. Dusty Harden charged to a third place finish. A first time winner in the mini stock class was James Drane, has he lead from green to checkered. Sara Porter drove her purple #23 to second place finish. Steve Pena rounded out the top three. A Class Quad feature winner was Jason Bentzer, with Craig Moore scoring the B Class 15 lapper.
This Friday night the stars and cars of the Hartford Speedway Park Enduro drivers converge for the third time for a 150 lap grind. The April event was claimed by Bill May, with Scott Lindsey claiming round two. The Factory Stocks are also on the card. Come out to the big half mile Friday night to see if a new face will visit Lane Automotive victory lane. First event will roll out onto the track at 8PM.
